Default Things WB could do

Well, WB is in a contract with HD DUD til May, they'd really like to clear up anytpe of confusions ASAP so here are some things they can do to do that will help. The goal is how to make the HD DVD copies as bad as possible so nobody wants them and then ditch them all in the end.

1. Make a seperate Blu-ray encoding that is superior. To not waste money and have to do another encoding, simply put the encoding on the DVD onto the HD DVD. Nothing in teh contract probably regards this.

2. Make the absolutel min. number of discs required in contract.

3. Make a deal with retailers. Charge retailers full MSRP for the disc, no retailer is going to take losses on HD DVD software. Retailers will say, well at that price, Im going to have to cut my order in half down to 3 discs instead of 6 (thats if they still cary DUD) and so consumers just are going to look at it and say, "I'm not paying $39.99 for The Invasion" or "Why is the blu-ray version chepaer, I thought HD DVD was cheaper". The deal is with retialers, once they have sold out of all their HD DVD hardware, they are allowed to mark everything down 75%, and warner will pay the difference or buy the discs back. WB will provide them with stickers that say Special HD DVD Lquidation on them.

4. Release titles as far behind the blu-ray version as possible.

5. NO SPECIAL FEATURES.

I just think it would be absolutely hillarious for DUDers to have to wait an extra month for titles, pay lots more, and only get a 480p encode.

I don't think WB would do any of these, expecept maybe #2, but any other thins WB could do before now and May to really hurt HD DVD.

Nah, I don't think WB has to be that nasty. They don't need to kill HD DVD any more than they already have.

I mean, I'm all for a full-bloodied BD encode on all their discs, but this probably isn't going to happen. We'll have to live with starved encodes until the end of May, but at least we'll get lossless. And then, beginning in June, Warner will start showing us why their lab has been considered the best in DVD encoding for years now.

It's a small price to pay. Not pleasant, but still small.

while i would like wb to implement these plans, it would not be good for business. they will try and squeeze as much money out hd-dud'er as the possible can.

Personally I think the HD-DVD market will dry up very quickly. I can't see too many (informed) people buying a Warner HD-DVD when they know that the game is up. They are more likely to buy a BD Player and a Warner Blu-ray as this will be a more future proof move to make.

Those in the UK will note the Rover motor company. With rumours about it's financial state sales dried up very quickly indeed, prompting a very quick demise of the company. I think HD-DVD will now go that same way.

True as this is - yesterday I was at Best Buy - surveying the "destruction" - and lo and behold, if someone was not perusing the Toshiba HD standalone players -

Consumers will remain uninformed until all HD-DVD products are removed from the shelves,
