Found this article, what gives? They name Pioneer in the article, Pioneer is Blu-ray exclusive...

http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/...entry_id=23211

Toshiba & HD DVD said: http://www.saunalahti.fi/frog1/wavs/allow.wav

Blu-ray's response was: http://koti.mbnet.fi/badbee/wavs/stress.wav

Now is the time for Toshi to start making nice with Sony & BDA and perhaps they can get some sort of incentive o nthe rights to produce BR players.

That is wierd. Either they had quoted someone from Pioneer saying something along the lines of "we still have a bit more work to do before we can declare this thing completely over," and then decided not to use it, or the reporter is just dumb.

Also, I much prefer the Gizmodo article where the Toshiba execs were described as about to break down in tears.

Well Toshiba might not give up but hundreds of thousands of HD DVD owners are. I'm gonna hold on to my favorite HD DVD's but that is it. Blu-Ray is the future, Toshiba should stop HD DVD production. Didn't the BDA invite Toshiba to join the BDA a few months ago?

lets see if toshiba still wants to fight when stores like bestbuy throw there sh@#t out the back door, cause no matter what they say, if a major retailer says its game over, then its game over.

I am sure I read something about a certain Sony Rep who extended a hand towards them...if I remember correctly, they slapped it away shortly afterwards.

I do think the Insiders said that Tosh was in a contract with MS and would not be able to Produce BD players anytime soon.

it's going to be a domino effect....

1. neutral owners will be hesitant to buy hd-dvd now when they know that they'll get it eventually in blu-ray down the road. Only the true hardcare hd-dvd fanboys will continue to buy and support hd-dvd
2. more sales for the blu-ray players and movies going forward
3. more stores to stop carrying hd-dvd
4. hd-dvd continues to lose $ billions each year if they continue to carry on
5. more discount on players and movies ahead
6. and the list goes on and on

Without software, you just can't survive and be profitable.

I believe Penton has hinted that Microsoft if out of the picture now.

Quote:
Penton-man:
If people care to dwell now on past history, I think some should be asking how irritated Toshiba is about a certain software company for abandoning them during the defining moment of the format war.
In keeping with your “flirting” theme, it was kinda like ………

Tosh………
”But you promised you would marry me and it turned out to be a one night stand.”

Software Company……..
“Wam, Bam………Thank You Mam…..It’s been swell but, marry into a family with packaged goods?,…… sorry you got the wrong impression”.

When I read the title I thought it meant Toshiba retaliating against Microsoft. They might want to, but not sure how they could.

One question I have is whether Universal is too dumb to see that maybe their partnership, cooperation, or whatever you want to call it, with Microsoft, might not have been in Universal's best interest. The Universal leadership could have probably gotten a couple hundred million dollars by switching to Blu-ray in the last couple of months. Instead, they are probably in a position where they could beg for scraps, and might get them, but might not.

Microsoft will likely push downloads. Toshiba will have to start manufacturing Blu-ray players or else give up that part of the market.
