New Line Cinema Dark City (1998)

The blurb regarding Dark City on Blu-ray has me confused. Is this the Alex Proyas film? If so, who the hell is David Goyer? Someone please clarify!

Edit: Never mind, I guess Goyer was one of the writers

David Goyer is the screenwriter. He also wrote/co-wrote the Blade Trilogy (directed Blade 3) and Batman Begins and the Dark Knight.

Then there's two now

One of my alltime favorites (and not just because Jenny breathes 'Sway me now' at the beginning of the film )

Definitely one of my favorites, I guess it was a little out of the mainstream. I think it is a much needed blu-ray release and would definitely be in my top 5 releases if they do it right.

With so many dark scenes, they'll have to do a superb job of transferring this to Blu-ray, or it will look like a mess.

If possible, wait for the rumored director's cut. At the very least it will not have the initial narration that gives too much away.

So about three months ago I was at Fotokem doing a transfer of my own film and noticed a girl from new line carrying in a few huge boxes of film. I took a look and each was marked Dark City. I remember thinking that they must be doing a new clean transfer for a re-release and for a fleeting second I thought it must be for a bluray release and low and behold this news comes three months later.

I liked this film, but it's not my favorite Alex Proyas movie (I preferred The Crow). Hopefully that film gets a new transfer on bluray as well.

I LOVED this movie. Of course I saw it ... altered. I will never forget the effect this movie had on me, spent weeks talking to my friend about it that saw it with me. Great movie, and I think hands down one of the best movies I've seen in a long time.

I'm excited over this. I always loved the Akira-esque elements of this movie.

Please please please give us the theatrical version. That is the one that is highly praised. A director's cut is fine as well, but don't only put that out.

Make that three; and, yes, that scene is hot!

One of the greatest movies almost nobody saw (well theatrically anyway......thanks alot, TItanic.....douchebag). One of only 3 movies I've ever seen multiple (more than twice) in theaters (the other two are The Rocky Horror Picture Show - oddly another film w/ Richard O'Brien (and I did play Eddie for a year or so till my band started playing out more), and the other was Wes Craven's Shocker. I know, I know not one of his better films, but I loved this when it came out and being a metalhead (and a diehard KISS fan), it was a perfect mix.). I knew they were talking about a new SE on DVD, but an extended cut re-released theatrically and an eventual blu release, well that's far more than I could ever have hoped for.
