Then there's two now

One of my alltime favorites (and not just because Jenny breathes 'Sway me now' at the beginning of the film )

Definitely one of my favorites, I guess it was a little out of the mainstream. I think it is a much needed blu-ray release and would definitely be in my top 5 releases if they do it right.

If possible, wait for the rumored director's cut. At the very least it will not have the initial narration that gives too much away.

With so many dark scenes, they'll have to do a superb job of transferring this to Blu-ray, or it will look like a mess.

So about three months ago I was at Fotokem doing a transfer of my own film and noticed a girl from new line carrying in a few huge boxes of film. I took a look and each was marked Dark City. I remember thinking that they must be doing a new clean transfer for a re-release and for a fleeting second I thought it must be for a bluray release and low and behold this news comes three months later.

I liked this film, but it's not my favorite Alex Proyas movie (I preferred The Crow). Hopefully that film gets a new transfer on bluray as well.

I LOVED this movie. Of course I saw it ... altered. I will never forget the effect this movie had on me, spent weeks talking to my friend about it that saw it with me. Great movie, and I think hands down one of the best movies I've seen in a long time.

I'm excited over this. I always loved the Akira-esque elements of this movie.

Please please please give us the theatrical version. That is the one that is highly praised. A director's cut is fine as well, but don't only put that out.

It was his first movie after "The Crow" disaster (not the movie, Brandon Lee's death, I mean.) I for one thought it was brilliant, but also was aware that Alex was still troubled when making "Dark City." So, maybe, I was reading to much into it. Anyway, can't wait for the "blu" release, if that is what they have in mind.

YAAAHH!!! YAAAHH!!! On to the next town!!!!

I remember vividly when I saw Dark City in the theater -- I was coming in almost "cold" not knowing the ins-and-outs of the plot, and for the first minute or so of the movie a tranquil, haunting Tori Amos song was playing instead of the voice-over. (This was, after all, before the days of mass-advertising in movies prior to the main feature -- at least where I was seeing it.) Projectionist goof or not, this led to a very interesting and refreshing viewing experience since I didn't get the back-story handed to me on a platter.

I ultimately felt the DVD release, with introductory voice-over intact, was not as quite as fulfilling, although it is still my favorite movie.

Roger Ebert, who recorded a commentary track for the original DVD actually recorded another one for the "forthcoming 2006 Director's Cut" (see bottom of the page) which is obviously MIA. So hopefully any Blu release will include this confirmed but missing Director's Cut along with Roger's observations.

-John

I agree both were good movies but The Crow was just an overall hell of a movie..

One of my all time favorites. I dunno how it will be with all dark scenes, but I'll buy it anyway.

They will. Many BD films that were shot with dark scenes look spectacular.
Halloween
30 days of night
The Descent
Alien vs Predator
2001
Resident Evil
Underworld 1 & 2.
