This is a film that is truly deserving of a Criterion release. I've had both the American and British blu ray releases of this film for some time now, and it will be great to see this film receive the "Criterion" treatment.

My favorite film since the theater, in 1969. Twice.
Since then, it was waiting until 1989 for the VHS, then every incarnation since. The 40th Anniversary Digibook being my latest, in 2009. Extras exclusive to the Criterion : Born to be Wild - a wonderful documentary film by Nicholas Freand Jones, which was aired on BBC2 in December 1995. The film contains an abundance of raw footage and various interviews with Dennis Hopper, Karen Black, cinematographer Laszlo Kovacs, producer Peter Fonda, Henry Jaglom, etc. In English, not subtitled. (30 min, 1080i). Hopper and Fonda at Cannes - a segment from the French television from Pour le cinema, directed by Pierre Mignot, aired on May 22, 1969. In French, with optional English subtitles. (3 min, 1080i). Steve Blauner - a new interview with Steve Blauner, who discusses the BBS and its legacy. The interview was conducted exclusively for Criterion in 2010. In English, not subtitled. (19 min, 1080p). Trailers - in English, not subtitled. -- Trailer 1 (3 min, 1080p). -- Trailer 2 (1 min, 1080p). And a 2nd Commentary track. Last edited by MikeZ.; 02-17-2016 at 07:12 PM. |

Is the mono track uncompressed? I vaguely remember reading that the BBS set version had a lossy DD mono track (even though the back label clearly states that it should be uncompressed).

I have the same question. Can someone confirm for sure that the mono track on the standalone release has been corrected to actually be lossless? I emailed Criterion several times about the disc in the box-set having a lossy track despite what the specs said and they never replied to me.

According to the listing on this site, the mono track is not included. I expect that that's inaccurate. On Criterion's web site the following is still listed: "Restored high-definition digital transfer, supervised by director of photography László Kovács, with uncompressed monaural soundtrack on the Blu-ray".

It seems Easy Rider received a 4K resto which will be screened at Cannes 2019.
But Cineteca collaborated, so... could be a mess. Quote:

Nice that they're doing a new remaster. Normally, I would be worried about Ritrovata but the fact they listed an outside colorist makes me a little more optimistic.
