Apologies if this thread isn't allowed, but I've posted the link to these videos several times in response to posters who have (perhaps) naively said that they refuse to purchase 4K 'upscales' (usually from ~2K sources). I figured it would get better visibility as it's own thread.
In fact, I think the videos are so informative that this thread could possibly be pinned so that it's always at the top of the 'Ultra HD Blu-ray and 4K Movies' section. Here's the link: http://yedlin.net/ResDemo/# For context, Steve Yedlin is a cinematographer who has worked on Star Wars: The Last Jedi (director of photography), Looper (director of photography), and many others. In the two part video, he debunks why holding the view of refusing to buy 4K 'upscales' is a naive and foolish one. Often, the 2K upscale looks superior or indistinguishable from a native 4K source/finish. The guy clearly knows his stuff, I would really suggest watching it. It's very digestible and straight-forward to follow. Hopefully this clears up lots of people's ill-informed viewpoints. ![]() |
