Default The Office Vs The Office UK, which do you prefer and why ?

The Office Vs The Office UK, which do you prefer and why ? On one hand, in the UK Version you have Ricky version and the other you have Steve Carell.

Hands down I am all for the UK version, I just wished they would have continued beyond the two series and the special. I like the UK verison because it doesn't seem to be as censored as the US one. I just started watching the US version and it is pretty good but if I had to pick one, I would go with the UK.

I too prefer the UK version, but for the opposite reason of the "jokes" being funnier. It's because the majority of it is not setup as jokes or gags. They come across as actual (if completely clueless) people that we all work with day to day. It truly seemed like a documentary and only rarely dipped into pushing the "reality" envelope.

The US version, which I do still enjoy, is a sitcom.

I like them both quite a bit. Their differences have been pointed out already...two different versions of the same basic idea, and they're both great!

I like The Office (UK), but I love The Office (US). Those characters work better for me.

The entire UK series is great from beginning to end. The US version had a really bad 1st and last season. The rest was very good.

The UK version is a masterpiece. It felt like a real documentary and you simultaneously laughed at the characters and cringed at their failures all at the same time. You laugh and you’re uncomfortable haha. It’s something completely different and special.

I think I should give the US version a chance again. I was turned off almost immediately when I saw that the pilot was basically a remake of the UK pilot but far inferior. Probably started me off on the wrong foot.

Yikes. Must be rough having such bad taste in comedy.

The UK Office is high on the list of best comedies in TV history.

The US version had a strong run for a few seasons but went downhill so badly. And even at its peak, it couldn't touch what Gervais/Merchant did.

UK by a mile. Gervais and Merchant created one of the greatest comedy shows of all time. Brent will go down as one of the greatest characters ever. The entire cast are fantastic.

The US version is good but not great.

UK was first, and the best use of Ricky Gervais. Not overlong and drawn out like the US, but the US did have a great cast and was less cringey.

Season 1 of the UK is better, the US one basically copied it.

However, thereafter the US one finds its feet and became my favorite 20 min comedy ever. Closely followed by Parks and Rec

Of course they did, all reiterations of the Office worldwide did.
That was the plan, so you really can't fault them for that .....

Full disclosure and side note: the only 3 original TV productions from the Uk that are watchable ( to me )
are the Tom Baker: Doctor Who, The Avengers and the Monty Pythons

Agreed!
After season one ( which they had to follow what was done in the UK )
they were free to do what they wanted, which is why it got better, better than the UK version...

Oh given my life back than, it was hit or miss caughting the Office when it aired. ( mostly hit )

But now since I found out about a year ago that it was re airing on Comedy Center starting at about 4:30 I've seen enough to
catch so many little things I missed during it original run. ( including entire episodes )

I just decided to get the Complete Series Box Set ( on it's way ).
After I get it in I'll watch all of the extra's, than I plan on watching the whole Series.
