Well, that should certainly make people happy who just want the Blu-ray Disc only but the price difference between the two releases is pretty narrow.
I'll go for the combo pack since the DVD is surely going to sell for around $15 and Apple never drops prices on Digital Downloads so that's another $20. |

I know you mentioned this wasn't your source, but "rumor" and "barrel of salt" and "leads us to believe" isn't terribly official sounding. |

By the way, The Princess and the Frog is absolutely wonderful. I often write that the defining characteristic of the Disney animated feature under Eisner was artistic compromise, with very low comedy relief aimed at toddlers slapped onto serious drama, creating a mixed bag for everyone.
There are exceptions to this, of course, but The Princess and the Frog is the most *complete* and *sincere* animated film to come out of the studio in decades. It reminds me of the thrill of rediscovery and renewal I felt seeing Roger Rabbit and The Little Mermaid for the first time in 1988 and 1989, to say nothing of the jaw-on-the-floor ambition of The Rescuers Down Under in 1990. I could get into more detail - the film isn't perfect in my eyes (there is a 5-10 minute stretch with some Bayou hunters that misfires, although it is clearly inspired by the Chuck Jones "Three Bears" shorts). But aside from that, my goodness, this film absolutely soars. I'll have more to say later how the film celebrates animation in a joyous way - it is fantastic. Get thee to the cinema. This movie is an alive, thrilling experience in animation. I think it's the best Disney animated film of the last 50 years. |

I was fairly disappointed with this one. Might have just been the expectations attatched to it, as there isn't much that I can point out that I didn't care for.
I absolutely loved the music, though, and Tiana is definitely a great role model for young women. I'm sure it's going to look great in HD, as well. Can't say I'm wild about the seperate SKUs though. I'm going to hold out on that verdict until we actually see how stores are going to price them. |

Dayum, March is getting to be the month of kickass animated titles. There hasn't been any new releases I've wanted to buy in a while in any genre, but The Princess and the Frog, Toy Story 1 and 2, Astro Boy, Evangelion 1.11 and even maybe Dumbo (date still uncertain) are all titles I'll want ASAP,

Yeah, there's usually a point where one can smell a LITTLE bit of Eric Goldberg-ish Jones/Looney homage in the recent movies (there's a lot of Chuck Jones in the "Pocahontas" raccoon), and that one was pretty baldfaced considering it's not really clear why they were in the story in the first place.

I'd be delighted if the Blu arrives as early as March. I've already seen the film twice in theaters, and I'm ready to see it again. Although it's extremely formulaic, fully embracing the Disney animated princess fairytale template (with light influential sprinklings of Shrek 2), it's a splendid film, gorgeously animated, and filled with colorfully likeable characters.
It's Randy Newman's score, though, that really offers the film its own distinguished flavor. His naturally upbeat style is a perfect match for the swinging, big Broadway jazz production numbers, absolutely nailing the 1920s New Orleans setting. Anika Noni Rose's rendition of "Down In New Orleans", in particular, makes for one hell of a showstopping finale. The Princess and the Frog is an overall stunning return to form by Disney. It left me feeling good by the end, much like how 2007's Enchanted was. I guess a good fairytale just does that to me. ![]() |

Can't wait. I'll probably get the Blu-Ray with DVD, since my sister isn't a fan of Blu-Ray.
