The buzz had been building for more than two weeks. A new project from Zach Cregger, the out-of-nowhere filmmaker behind the cult horror hit Barbarian, was coming.

There were offers sight unseen, some even hitting eight figures, before the project was taken to market. Producers were calling Cregger’s representatives, begging to be involved. No dice. Nobody was getting a peak until it was to hit the market the morning of Jan. 22.

In the 24 hours after Cregger’s new horror project, Weapons, was sent to Hollywood studios, a brief but intense bidding war exploded and just as fast, a whopper of a deal was made.

Closing whirlwind negotiations Tuesday, New Line has won the rights to Weapons, signing a deal that seems unprecedented in modern times, especially for a filmmaker with essentially just one movie under his belt. [+]

Renate Reinsve, Star of ‘The Worst Person in the World,’ Joins Pedro Pascal in ‘Weapons’

Renate Reinsve, who starred in the Oscar-nominated romantic drama The Worst Person in the World, has signed on to star opposite Pedro Pascal in New Line’s Weapons, the newest movie project from Barbarian filmmaker Zach Cregger.

Cregger wrote the script and is directing the feature that reunites him with his Barbadian producing team, Roy Lee of Vertigo and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures. Cregger is also producing along with Vertigo’s Miri Yoon.

Weapons is described as an interrelated, multistory horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia, the 1999 actor-crammed showcase from filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.

Character details are being kept under lock and key but the story revolves around the disappearance of high schoolers in a small town.

Reinsve is a Norwegian actress who has been working in her home country since 2011. She broke out on the international stage with Worst Person, a romantic comedy-drama from Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Trier. The movie premiered at 2021’s Cannes film festival to much acclaim., with Reinsve winning the award for best actress at the festival. She also earned a best actress BAFTA nomination while the movie was nominated for best international feature and best screenplay at that season’s Oscars.

I'm assuming the person is insufferable? I actually don't know him all that well beyond his work.

I dunno. Actors get an upswing at times in what they get into. Happens a lot. I never really find them over saturated. My scope on stuff is a wide net so I don't really pay attention to how much one actor is in. I just hope that their acting is good otherwise... oooof.

Jennifer Lawrence would be the one where she was everywhere for me but it wasn't even everywhere it's that The Hunger Games weren't all that great. And then her X-Men role was so odd cuz she couldn't act worth a damn in the blue. And that's all I saw her in aside from a David O. Russell movie and another by Guillermo Arriaga. But she is a good actor, I'm guessing she may be one where a director needs to really hone her in. And that's perfectly fine it's just that for me... she was in a good bit of movies in a short period where she wasn't all that good in. Even though some of them were good. And then she she did stuff where the film quality and her acting quality were solid. Eh.
