Anyone know if local Lady Bird Blu release next week is going to be the UNCENCORED version that wasn't released in cinemas earlier this year?
https://www.cinemablend.com/news/238...alia-heres-why The artwork as the MA15+ classification on it, which suggests it will be the correct version as it was given an M certificate with the cuts on its theatrical release. ![]() https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Lady-...lu-ray/204353/ Classification board site makes me think this as well, but I guess we wont know for certain until its released... http://www.classification.gov.au/Pag...ady+bird&t=lfc |

The version that was submitted for DVD/Blu-ray classification was rated MA15+ for Strong Coarse Language and Brief Nudity which were the two elements removed from the censored M version so as you say it is highly likely to be completely uncut.
The rating on the pack shot above is the original cinema consumer advice likely done before the DVD was submitted for a rating. |

Which makes far more sense than the alternative, really.
I remember when there was a huge kerfuffle about the graphic ends to Mortal Kombat matches in the states, and it ended up going to court with the final ruling being "this is just fine, because of the first amendment, but if a nipple were to pop out obviously we'd ban it". I also find it strange that violence is more acceptable at lower ratings only if there are no consequences depicted. Surely teaching kids that violence does no real harm is a stupid idea? |

I find that the conservatives don't mind violence, including rape, if it just flows with the story. But if violence or rape are shown capturing the horror and trauma of real-life violence and rape the want it banned. |

I say 'kids' because they're the ones being prevented from seeing the violence-with-consequences of an M-rated film, while we're perfectly happy to let consequence-free violence abound in G-rated material.

The bloodless violence in movies is entirely a result of them being made to PG-13 standards. Then again, a lot of R-rated movies have M-ratings in both NZ and Australia, especially ones from the 80s where they just ported the old "16" over to M. Heck, I remember when I was a kid Aliens and The Terminator were only "13" here. Something must have changed significantly between 1979 and 1984, going to that from an OFLC that banned Mad Max and gave Alien R-ratings in both countries.

There are a couple of C-words in the dialogue as well. Were they edited out of the M-rated version? (ETA: Apparently so - replaced by "cooze".) Last edited by GaryCouzens; 06-08-2018 at 06:30 AM. |
