Default It has begun - A30 sold as Upconverter

On this week's ad for a store called Conn's Electronics, they're advertising Tosh's A3 as a 1080i upconverter DVD player. I guess they knew what was coming

Here is another way HD DUD players are being advertised: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IvE_dONJIWU

It would be funny if they had this video and the Junk Closet one playing all over CES

One is an upconverting DVD player and the other is an HD DVD player. Was there ever really a difference?

Wow that just the final kick in the -- for Toshiba. Your not worthy enough to be called Hi-Def anymore.

Now make a recall if you have any dignity left.

I think that the ultimate insult is having the Sharp Blu-Ray player right under it.

Seriously, once the prices start to dive on these HD players, are they good to buy as an upconverter player?

I own the latest Panasonic BD player and have heard its upconversion is not that great and I have alot of DVDs.

I heard the Oppo DV-981HD used to be the top one, but that recently the Samsung BDs with the Reon chip and one of the HD players (not sure which model) now beats out the Oppo. Can someone in the know please comment.

Or do you all think that in a year we will see better upconverting DVD players with Reon chips that blow away everything previously? Not sure if there is a market for that though. Most of these now are cheap $99 ones that don't really do that great. It might not be a lucrative market for manufacturers since every BD player has some upconverting built in.

What chips do these Toshiba players use for upconversion and I assume only certain models do full 1080p from the looks of the ads?

I was waiting for something like this to happen. For Toshiba that would be the smart thing to do when HD DVD is gone is just sell all the units in upcoverter boxes to at least get some money back.
