I was pretty satisfied with the first game so I wasn’t crazy to dig out a second.

But that trailer is absolutely killer.

Xbox exclusive, to boot! Honestly, if you haven’t played the first Outer Worlds, you’re missing out! This conference was spectacular!

No interest in the game, but their trailer was funny.

I enjoyed the first one. Not quite as much as I had hoped, but maybe my expectations were set too high. I plan on playing it again at some point so I can play the DLC (you need a game save from right before the final mission to play one of them), and maybe I'll enjoy it even more the 2nd time. It wouldn't the first time, but again, I still liked it well enough.

The teaser trailer for this was fantastic. Whoever makes them at Obsidian is basically the video game equivalent of the people who do the trailers for Deadpool.

Some people used it to continue to criticize Microsoft for announcing games way too early, but seriously, the fact that they made fun of trailers in the actual teaser trailer makes it obvious it was used as a fun way to just say "yes, The Outer Worlds 2 is happening...someday".

I thought the first game was phenomenal! It was easily in my top 5 games released in 2019. And probably in my top 10 for the previous/still-sort-or-current generation. If you really delve into the game, the story, your choices, the consequences and the overwhelming amount of OPTIONS given to you, as the player, this game gives you some of the best narrative control I’ve ever seen. You can literally finish this entire game without needing to fight a single enemy. I’ve done it. It’s the easiest method to use to finish the game on the hardest difficulty. To me, the best way I can describe it is if you melded Fallout with Mass Effect.

This is near the top of my list, for most anticipated games.

Maybe I made it seem like I didn't like the game much. I did. It's just my expectations were so high, and I also expected more of the tone of their trailers more throughout the game. Now that I know what to expect from it, that's why I said I'd probably enjoy it even better now.

I look forward to playing it again (along with the DLC), and obviously am really looking forward to the sequel. It should be one of many great pieces of Xbox's now dominant western RPG lineup.

Really enjoyed the first but never got around to the DLC. Really really loved the main theme. The audio director moved on to SONY Santa Monica after this released and helped with Ragnarok audio.

Coming October 29th for Xbox/PS5/Steam.

The Outer Worlds 2 - Official Gameplay Trailer

Quote:
The Outer Worlds 2 is the eagerly-awaited sequel to the award-winning first-person sci-fi RPG from Obsidian Entertainment (just look at the exciting number of dashes in this sentence!). Time to clear your calendar – get ready for an action-packed adventure with a new crew, new weapons, and new enemies in a new colony! So much newness!

As a daring and most likely good-looking Earth Directorate agent, you must uncover the source of devastating rifts threatening to destroy all of humanity. Your investigation leads to Arcadia, home of skip drive technology, where the fate of the colony, and ultimately the entire galaxy, rests on your decisions—your strengths, your flaws, your crew, and the factions you choose to trust.

Not sure if the $80 price tag ($100 for the Premium Edition) for all platforms is part of the dev's critique on capitalism, but I suppose it could help get more players on Game Pass.

Quote:
  • The Outer Worlds 2 launches October 29, 2025: Featured in the Xbox Games Showcase and expanded on in today’s The Outer Worlds 2 Direct, welcome to Arcadia, a massive new colony torn apart by rifts, rival factions, and corporate ambition.
  • Encounter three clashing factions: Militarized utopians, corporate cultists, and prophetic scientists – each pushing their own twisted vision of humanity’s future.
  • Build your commander your way: Expanded RPG systems, new flaws, science weapons, and even science armor like the new improved Shrink Ray.
  • Worlds that react to you: Companions, factions, and even radio stations will react to the moves and decisions you make.

The deep dive has me super excited for this one. I played through the first game three full times after I bought it. I feel like I will do the same with this one. Which means I have about a week to finish Ninja Gaiden 4.

Following the Xbox Games Showcase, many players began looking at pre-order pages for physical copies of upcoming Xbox games like Ninja Gaiden 4 and The Outer Worlds 2 only to see that the boxed Xbox copies do not contain a disc at all. Instead, it’s just a box with a digital download code, largely defeating the purpose of buying a physical copy. However, the PS5 versions of these games do have discs, creating an interesting discrepancy. Xbox fans are understandably upset that these games are only being sold in a true physical format on PS5. This also comes after Xbox raised prices on games, so The Outer Worlds 2 is $80 for nothing more than a digital code.

Wish that had been true for the new Doom. I had to buy digital on PS since the disc version isn't played without a connection.

They only said these will come with discs instead of codes, but they can still be like Doom

The price is getting reset to $70, matching other current gen games ($100 Premium Edition pricing hasn't changed). At the moment it's still $80 on Xbox, but it's been adjusted to $70 on Steam and PS5. From @obsidian.net‬ via Bluesky:

Quote:
Dear Galactic Citizens!

We have received your SOS via skip drone about the pricing. As an organization devoted to making sure that corporations do not go unfettered, we at the Earth Directorate have worked with [REDACTED] to revise the price of The Outer Worlds 2.

But we were all told that games HAD to be more expensive because of rising development costs and they’d never profit as the industry reports record profits year over year. This is my shocked face that they’re just price gouging.
