Out of curiosity I checked out HD-DVD.com forums to check out thier side to the latest Paramount rumor, & for the most part they seem to be accepting Blu & looking at the bright side of things one post was quoted as saying "Well if Toshiba makes Blu-ray players it'll be a good product" And many other's seem to be ready to adapt blu-ray & just want lower player pricing.

I'm glad i don't have to go over there and try to talk more sense into them. I used to go over there and try to get their side of the format war, and try to talk some reason into them with links and charts and facts all backed up with sources... but they usually just ignored them and failed to provide any proof to anything they said.
Thy never banned me, and I was never mean or impolite. I'm just glad they are not acting like AVS. |

I suppose the real trolls were never over on their forum. They just wanted to enjoy their movies, not go around spreading lies and disinformation. You'd have to go to bi-format forums for that.
Anyway, I'm glad to hear it. And they're more than welcome to join here, too. ![]() |

I come in peace. As a disappointed owner of an HD-A2, I am coming to say hello and wondering about Blu-ray players. I've never really looked into them, as the last Sony product I owned was the original Playstation and ever since my purchase of teh original Xbox and some trouble/dissatisfact I had with a Sony camcorder and ES receiver, I have since washed my hands of Sony. However, I am relieved to hear that it appears that perhaps the most highly regarded blu-ray players are in fact branded by Pioneer and Panasonic. I am really tempted to wait it out until Blu-ray has gotten their act together on getting a product that matches the features of my Toshiba HD-A2 (online, etc.). I wonder, do you know when to expect this? I also would like one that sends the hd-audio formats across HDMI in bitstream, as my new Onkyo TX-SR805 can decode those audio formats.
I am disappointed, and frankly a little surprised it ended as it did. It always appeared Warner preferred HD-DVD with their releases, and perhaps they might have but they couldn't ignore the momentum Blu-ray had. Fortunately, my HD-A2 is a great product and will continue to play the discs that I have for years to come, and my new A/V receiver has plenty of space for a Blu-ray player. Any input on when Blu-ray is going to get profile 2.0 players out would be appreciated. Congratulations on the victory. And from my perspective, I'll be able to pick up some dirt cheap HD-DVD's to supplement with my new Blu-ray movies :-). I must admit, I have been salivating at the thought of Pixar movies in high-definition. thanks. Last edited by jeremyr; 01-08-2008 at 08:45 PM. |

Hi, Jeremy!
You'll find us not evil at all, and you'll also find oodles of players in this format (from many different manufacturers). Go to the appropriate forum and look at the first sticky -- that should give you a very thorough initial idea. |

A good bet is looking into a ps3, they can run as little as $399, you get Spiderman 3, and 5 free Blu-Rays you send away for, this way you basically save about $150. If you're looking for a stand alone player, you may need to wait, but the PS3 just got updated to Profile 1.1 Via a Firmware update, also, there's virtually no load time on Movies. |

I looked into the PS3, it looks like it is unable to bitstream the HD audio formats . Call me silly, but I just spent a pretty penny on that new Onkyo and would like to at least give it a bit of a workout on decoding the formats :-) I know it doesn't really matter, though the Onkyo does have the highest quality Burr-Brown audio decoders.
I looked at some data from CES, looks like I might be able to get my hands on the Panny BD50 here relatively soon. Looks like the first player that might be somewhat future proof for Blu-ray. I'm also probably a little gun shy. It's the first time I ever was an early adopter of a format, and got burned. Last edited by jeremyr; 01-08-2008 at 09:00 PM. |

Eh.. on teh HD-A2. It wasn't terribly expensive (not like investing in one of those high-dollar Blu-ray players ;-) . It's not like it was a waste of money. No reason to double dip with Blu-ray when they're both pretty much the same. Toshiba products I think are pretty durable, so I'm not worried about it. Thinking about picking up another HD DVD player here when idiots start dumping thinking that they can only own Blu-ray. Last edited by jeremyr; 01-08-2008 at 09:27 PM. |

Welcome to the forum and good to hear someone from the HD DVD side who seems level headed and realistic. Regarding Warner preferring HD DVD - I think that was true up until Nickerson left. After that, Warner starting looking at Blu-ray from a more business perspective instead of a political one. As far as players, you'll see a lot of new players - keep an eye out on the CES announcements too. |
