Default Stop-Motion in Blu-ray

I decided to buy Corpse Bride and see if I'd get it this time. Didn't really happen. But I was really impressed by how amazing a stop-motion movie could look in Blu though!

I know it's animation and I should expect it but I didn't. Now I wanted to get Nightmare Before Christmas.

Are there any other Stop-Motion/Claymotion movies in Blu?

Nightmare Before Christmas is a must buy, I knew it would be good from the reviews but once I saw it I was really surprised how much detail it showed.

I don't know of any others though, I just have Corpse Bride and Nightmare Before Christmas unless one is slipping my mind at the moment.

Harryhausen used stop motion a lot, the movie isn't all stop motion, but a lot of the SFX are.

you may try the Ray Harryhausen box set on blu including: 20 million miles to earth, seventh voyage of Simbad etc...

all the spfx on the these movies were shot using the stop motion technique, it was called for marketing fancy reason: dynamation

That is the lamest/most awesomest name ever o.o. (very undecisive sometimes)

From the review on this site it seems that's more a rental than a purchase. Is that a wrong assumption?

I hope TNBC is cheap for BF. Since it's holiday themed it should be right?

well there's no chance they are gonna look like new movies so most people is disappointed about the high presence of film grain. That's the way the movies were...

i saw only 7th voyage it's ok...a little improvement over the dvd... but a better framing at 1.66:1 instead of 1.85 of the dvd.
Most of those movies were shot FF cauz' of the spfx.
It is funny dough (it has not been mentioned anywhere) that since the cinemascope was big at that time columbia released 7th voyage in a cinemascope print as well... i had one few years ago...

I want "The Adventures of Mark Twain" which was the first full length Claymation feature.

The Adventures of Mark Twain, released in the UK as Comet Quest, is a 1985 stop motion animated film directed by Will Vinton (best known for "The California Raisins" animation). It received a wider theatrical release, still limited to seven major cities, in January 1986. It was released on DVD in January 2006. The film features a series of vignettes extracted from several of Mark Twain's works, built around a plot that features Twain's attempts to keep his "appointment" with Halley's Comet. The concept was inspired by a famous quote by the author:

"I came in with Halley's Comet in 1835. It is coming again next year (1910), and I expect to go out with it. It will be the greatest disappointment of my life if I don't go out with Halley's Comet. The Almighty has said, no doubt: 'Now here are these two unaccountable freaks; they came in together, they must go out together.'"

Included are sketches taken from The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Mysterious Stranger, The Damned Human Race, Injun Joe (briefly), The Diary of Adam and Eve (Letters from the Earth), Captain Stormfield's Visit to Heaven and a rendering of Twain's first story, The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.

ok sorry
cinemascope was an anamorphic system usin a 35mm film negative copyrighted by Fox in early 50's
the aspect ratio would be 2.55:1
you would watch a tv screen with large black bars over and under the picture
rebel without a cause, the robe, the fly are some examples.

today anamorphic widescreen 35mm film negative is with an aspect ratio of
2.39:1 the black bars are smaller in this case.

No kidding! And to think that it was geared for little little kids.

I highly doubt this would be rated G if it was released today. lol

If I had watched that as a little kid I'd have nightmares for months o.o.

The churches would attack it like The Golden Compass.

Funny you say that. I remember in 1985 I was ten years old. I was at a church run day care, and they took us to see this. It was animation, and hey...how bad could it be? it's 1985 you know....

I don't remember all of what happened, but I do remember sometime during the Adam and Eve section they gathered us up and made us leave.

I remember sitting outside the theater on the curb with all the other kids waiting for them to get the bus to come back and get us and take us back to the day care.

And I remember one of the women who worked there was just ranting and raving over how horrible it was and it was so offensive.

ha ha ha ha

That sounds like how my old Christian school would act... the pastor is convinced all rock and roll is of Satan. Not just bad or offense, but literally from the devil o.o.

But my actual church was pretty cool. We watched Wide Awake which contains some language but is a great movie.

CinemaScope was invented as to bring consumers back to the theater because television was keeping more people at home instead and as a competitor to 3-d films.

It wasn't so much ahead of its time being that the widescreen lens and 3-d was invented in the 1920's but came along at the right time to enhance the theater experience.

The aspect ratio of 2.55:1 is for super cinemascope and which was to compete with cinerama and todd-ao.
