So good to see this happening.
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Peppe...Blu-ray/66789/ Pre-order link: http://www.yesasia.com/global/103240...0-en/info.html I can finally retire my dvd provided this will have English subtitles. Though I like Oasis a lot more, this is still an amazing film. According to Yesasia, it will have English subs but who knows if that's true. One can hope! |

Just got this disc and played it. The transfer is fine, BUT unfortunately the English subtitles are riddled with errors that range from simple typos to totally garbled sentences. I don't mind the occasional misspelt word, but this is bad enough to be totally distracting and annoying.
This is such a shame. I have the UK DVD edition released by Third Window Films and, as far as I recall, there were no problems with the subtitles on that, so it seems I'll have to keep it (PAL speed-up and all) until such time as this excellent film is released on BD in the UK or US. Unless you happen to be fluent in Korean and don't depend on the English subtitles, I really can't recommend this Korean edition. |

Yikes, that's not very good news. I don't remember the DVD subtitles being terrible, but I haven't seen the movie in about 8 years. If I find it annoying perhaps I'll have to make my own copy with the blu-ray video and the DVD subtitles

I've watched most of the disc again, and perhaps I was a bit harsh in my comments about the subtitles. There are certainly a number of careless mistakes in them, but they aren't so bad that the meaning of the dialogue is obscured. One rather strange feature is that, in the captions introducing each flashback segment, the year number is always shown with a space between the first and second digits (e.g. 1 984).
Also, I did check the UK DVD edition, and the subtitles on both editions are in fact identical! I was obviously in a more tolerant mood when I originally watched the DVD, as I didn't remember any particular issues with the subtitles then. And the BD is definitely superior to the DVD regarding both PQ and AQ. So on reflection, I'm happy to have it. |

Received this disc this week and I can confirm subtitles are quite good indeed. Besides, the "issue" concerning the spaces between the numbers is not always present. I also took time to add the region test to the database, and to do a comparison between the DVD and the BD, and I must say I found it astounding in every single shot. Two thumbs up for this new transfer. I can't believe the 2007 (?) SD master was so flawed, and so wrong in many places. For instance, the night sequences appear blue-tinted most of the time, and they shouldn't...
The sequence near the water, here, features a faux sunset-filtered look; this has been revised on the BD. Plus (again, talkin' about the DVD), there are a number of "blackouts" (caps #7 and 11, and others), where a loss of quality is clearly detectable, compared to the rest of the material. All in all, I found this product very solid, an absolute must-own. And the package is just great. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by Dan8700; 11-07-2013 at 08:51 AM. |

I have seen Oasis, Secret Sunshine and Poetry, and think each one of them was brilliant. How does this compare to those later works? I am thinking about blind buying this (possible subtitle issues and all), but that steep price point is holding me back
