The title of the video alone is an absurd hyperbole. No need to bother watching it. Haven't we just got Mission: Impossible Fallout? Mad Max: Fury Road wasn't that long ago. Didn't people like John Wick a lot? Does the action genre seem ruined to anyone?

I’ve seen that video before this thread. It does actually make some very valid points. To say that Bourne is solely responsible is ludicrous. However, it did set some major precedence for the future of the genre which are not appealing to many as viewers.

I think I saw the video. The points were fair, but some action movies now like Fury Road, John Wick and Fallout are incredible.

If he made any credible arguments, they're unrelated to the title of the video, which means it's misleading clickbait. Worthless no matter how you spin it. Nothing to do with butthurt. "lol" |

Title is definite hyperbole but for all the great action movies we've gotten recently as others pointed out, a lot have also been tainted by the filmmaking methods employed in the Bourne series.

Saw the first one, and that was plenty. It's another risk-free PG-13 Hollywood action movie, like any entry in the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE franchise, that gets the undemanding mouth-breathers fired up. It's not a bad film, but if you require something of substance you'd be far better off sticking to the older R-rated action films that are still being talked about. Check out THE FRENCH CONNECTION (1971), THE TAKING OF PELHAM ONE TWO THREE (1974) or DIRTY HARRY (1971) instead.

The term "ruined" is employed in the same sense, for example, that the word "sins" is used in the Cinema Sins videos. It's not literal. It's a hyperbolic exaggeration designed to catch the attention of the viewer, as well as being a pithy statement of intent of what the video will attempt to discuss. Good grief at the autism on this site at times.

I'll bite.
The critic concludes by praising the Bourne films and Greengrass, and blames inferior filmmakers for imitating the style without understanding it. Ok...so, why create a YouTube with a title like, "How One Movie Trilogy Ruined Action Films", when that's not the actual conclusion, as opposed to, "Why The Bourne Trilogy Is Smarter and Better Than Other Action Films" or "Why Paul Greengrass is a Great Director" or "How Greengrass' Bourne Trilogy Influenced Action Films"? Tongue in cheek irony, I suppose. Last edited by Ernest Rister; 08-08-2018 at 06:54 AM. |
