Exclamation Matsushita seen sizing up OLED TV market

http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20080624/...0Io.Rf7poRSLMF

Quote:
The newspaper said that Matsushita would be the first to mass-produce OLED TVs of over 30 inches, and that the company aimed to challenge Samsung Electronics (005930.KS) for the top share in the global flat-TV market.

The paper also said Matsushita would likely start selling the OLED TVs for around 150,000 yen ($1,390).
Next few years look very interesting.

I must say of all future technologies for TV screens, OLED is the one that has me the most interested.

Dude how old is this story (the link was down when I tried clicking on it)? Matsushita changed their name last year to Panasonic. If the article is recent, would Yahoo Tech know this????

Anyway, OLED looks like it will be the "next" hot technology once the screen sizes start hitting the 40"+ mark. This is assuming that the price does not stay in the stratosphere.

There's nothing about the technology that keeps it from 1080p.

Current product development is in its infancy... as with any new technology (LCD and Plasma sets didn't attain 1080p for years... even after 1080i HDTV was the standard).

Give OLED time to mature. The point folks are making (why they are excited) is that it will attain a much higher quality picture in about 5-10 years than anything you can affordably purchase today.
