Pardon my inexperience. Just hooked up my new Blu-Ray (Panasonic) to my Sony LCD 52" XBR4. Watched Spiderman 3 and could not seem to get rid of the top and bottom borders. I can use the zoom feature on the LCD but in "takes away" from the 1080P resolution. On the Blu-Ray player, I have set 16:9. SHould movies such as this be seen full screen? What I am missing. Thanks in advance - Tony

No what you are seeing is supposed to be there. Movies that are in widescreen that fill the screen are either 1.78:1 or 1.85:1. Movies with the black bars are usually 2.35:1 or 2.40:1. It has to do with the aspect ratio in which the movie was filmed. Most directors use the 2.35:1 aspect when fiming. Hope this helps. Welcome to the forums.

Seriously, this is an important issue. I don't know why these threads keep getting deleted before we get answers

I think we have to get the directors cuts to see the stuff they're hiding behind the black bars.

Black bars are normal and of no consiquence. You are seeing the entire movie as seen in theaters that way. Have fun here and Welcome!!! ![]() |
