I got a Sony 4K player last Thursday and couldn't get a decent picture on the 4K discs (Blu-rays played fine) from my 55" JVC 4K TV and I was about to give up. It took me 3 days of bad advice from a million people before I figured this out on my own. Go to the TV remote and press menu, then press function, then go to HDMI EDID and make sure you click 1.4 (mine had been on 2.0). Then it should look perfect. I have no idea why this fixed everything, but it did.
