Default I know no one wants to talk about this but....

I have a 52 in mitsu hooked up to a PS3, and lately I have been noticing ALOT of grain. Now I dont know if it is my settings (I have been tweeking them lately). But up until about 2 weeks ago I never really noticed it at all. The first tiem I watched Lost season 3 I didnt notice it. But now after I watch them again I see alot of background noise and its not in the blacks its in the colors, the blues and reds and even in the faces. I got Veronica Mars season 2 on Netflix and it looks disgusting the entire picture is covered with grain, I might even write that one off as a bad transfer, but its other DVD's too. My games look fine. Nothing has changed I have been using the same set up since June and just in the last couple of weeks I have noticed it on all video media. Any help?

Try going back to your non-grain disks and see if there is a difference. Check the contrast. If too bright, may bring out grain....

Try a new HDMI cable.
Order one from Monoprice for $10 and give it a try.

Dude, it's your settings.
Did you write down what you started with so that to can revert back?

Unfortunatly I have not wrote down my settings before but I used that THX optimizer on Episode 3 for the ones I have now.

Video noise: Off
Picture Mode: Natural
Contrast:58 63 is the highest
Brightness:23
Color:32 (anything higher and it seems to get saturated)
Tint:37
Sharpness:8
Color Temp: High

Those are the settings I have now. I have looked all over online for a guide for this TV and nothing is available. The TV is a Mitsu DLP model WD-52631, ANY help would be fantastic.

Many TVs have a reset button for the factory settings for your PQ.

Contrast looks awfly high...1. Turn sharpness down.
2. Video noise should be "on" to negate video noise.
Try the temp setting last, and try adjusting the contrast after numbers 1 and 2.

What a lousy thread title. It's like you already believe your system's faulty when all you really needed was settings advice...

Nothing wrong with your title, 99% of the people on this site want to help each other out. Keep asking questions if you need help, that is what we all are here for.

I actually enjoy custom taloring my PQ and SQ. Sound and picture is a subjective preference. Feel free to set PQ and SQ to your personal tastes. You will enjoy it all so much better that way.

And Brightness if set too high will enhance grain as well.

I here ya, do what you think looks best. The calibration disks are a good starting point though. Sharpness is distortion, it can REALLY enhance grain if turned to high.
