UPDATE (8/11/21):

Criterion has announced today they will begin releasing 4K UHD discs of their own. I will continue to keep this list updated, as there is a chance that a couple of titles out of the 1100+ in Criterion's disc collection will not make it to 4K from Criterion themselves. We are still unaware of how Criterion's 4K presentations will look and as such, having an alternative version with better compression might be preferred.

* The Three Colors trilogy has now been announced by Criterion for their own UHD release.
** The Elephant Man UHD from StudioCanal (UK) is encoded by Fidelity in Motion and the superior release.

You don't think that people who, as you say, "collect Criterion and are frustrated with the fact that they aren't releasing 4K UHD Blu-rays", are very much aware of these 4K UHD discs from other studios? And what difference does it really make? 4K UHD is (mostly) region free, so anyone and everyone has access to these 4K UHD releases. As far as I know many people simply grab the 4K UHD disc and keep the Criterion around for the extras.

As I stated in the first post, just made this as a tool to help those who collect Criterion that are not aware of the 4Ks that might be available in other regions. If the list is not helpful to you or does not interest you, by all means do not use it.

There is nothing here to use, though. All of this stuff is constantly discussed in the main Criterion thread and every single thread for individual Criterion releases. On top of that the website shows other versions of whatever you're looking at.

I suppose I just don't see the necessity for yet another place for people to complain about Criterion's lack of 4K UHD titles when it's already being done in every other thread. And there is even less necessity for a thread that specifically puts the focus on releases that are, in fact, available on 4K UHD.

I wasn't aware that some of these titles had UHD releases outside of North America, so the list is useful.

Without advertising that in the first post, I was hoping this would allow one thread for all of those complaints to fill up, maybe allowing the main CC thread to clean up for a little while.

It's multi-purpose hopefully. I think keeping a list in one place will be helpful and the venting can remain here as opposed to the main CC thread.

Criterion’s first-ever 4K release is rumored to be in the making.

SUPERMAN (1978) is set to be the first of three initial 4K discs from The Criterion Collection (the others are tentatively BRAZIL and THE SOUND OF MUSIC).

The SUPERMAN set will come in two editions. A “limited collectors edition” is set to include the theatrical cut on 4K, and four Blu-rays that feature all three cuts of the film, plus new and legacy supplements (trailers, TV spots, etc,), isolated score track, five commentary tracks from the filmmakers and fans of the film, and a collectors book, all in a special red case.
The standard edition will be a four-disc blu ray set with the aforementioned features.
There will also be a new featurette created especially for this edition, “Superman The Legacy”, hosted by Darci Lynne with interviews from surviving cast members and new & archival interviews with stars of the Superman franchise.

This set is scheduled ......





HEY WAIT! APRIL FOOLS! This has not been officially announced yet, of course, for real. But then again, the definitive home entertainment release of SUPERMAN is still yet to come!
