Default Duke Nukem Forever - Out Now

Duke Nukem Forever
June 14th, 2011

Put on your sunglasses and prepare to step into the boots of Duke Nukem, whose legend has reached epic proportions in the years since his last adventure. The alien hordes are back and only Duke can save the world, again. Pig cops, alien shrink rays and enormous alien bosses won't stop our hero from accomplishing his one and only goal: to save the world, save the babes and to be a bad-ass while doing it.

The King of All Shooters is back with over-the-top weapons, massive aliens and unprecedented levels of interactivity. This game puts pedal to the metal and tongue firmly in cheek, among other places. Shoot hoops, lift weights, read adult magazines, draw crude messages on whiteboards or ogle one of the many beautiful women that populate Duke’s life; that is if you can pull yourself away long enough from kicking ass and taking names. Duke Nukem was and will forever be immortalized in gaming history, and this is his legend.

"I'm very sorry for the added delay. We've all been working extremely hard and are very eager to deliver the game to you," said Gearbox Software honcho Randy Pitchford in an official statement.

"I've been thinking of these lyrics from the great country song, 'He's The Duke' - 'He told us if we waited we could Come Get Some, but I never knew Forever was going to be so long.' If you're like me, June cannot come quickly enough."

The release date was changed from May 3 (May 6 for outside the U.S.) to June 14 for the States and June 10 (for the international release).

According to the game's publisher, this is the "shortest" delay in the game's franchise. "In case you haven't heard, Duke never comes early," said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K in an official statement. We thank Duke's fans for their continued patience - I promise this won't take another 15 years."

Delayed numerous times, Duke Nukem has been in development since 1997. Gearbox Software took over development duties from the title's creator, 3D Realms, in 2009.

It's really real. Duke Nukem Forever's being published by 2K Games, is being developed by Gearbox, and we have first hand impressions.

Here are the first notes we've received from Andrew Reiner live at PAX:

* Duke Nukem Forever is running on current tech, not DOS like previously thought. The game looks amazing, with no signs of being years old.

* Gearbox's Randy Pitchford is the one giving the demo. "This is actually happening. Can you believe this?" He said. "We don't want the dream to die. We brought all of the guys back together. we want to finish the game. Preserve what they made. Add to it. Expand it."

* Allen Blum, one of the level designers from Duke Nukem 3D is still working on the game.

* The trailer for Duke Nukem Forever begins with aliens returning to Earth. They tear down a statue of Duke. They are after Earth's women.

* Duke runs across a huge three-breasted demon. In classic Duke style, he says, "I'd still hit it."

* The game has the shrink ray gun again, as well as a rail gun, tons of alien weapons, and huge enemies.

* The game's signature humor is back: the game reportedly contains "first-person urinal peeing," complete with a golden stream. Hitting left on the D-pad give you beer.

* The demo begins in a football stadium with Duke taking a leak. He follows a group of commandos out onto the field to battle a 4-story Cycloid. It's raining, out and the water splashes on the screen beautifully. The Cycloid fires rockets at Duke, and has a thruster pack to charge at high speed. It's similar to the football field fight in Duke 3D.

Here's a blurry picture of the demo room. You can see that the game is running on the Xbox 360:

Here's a picture of Andy playing the demo:

* The demo continues...Duke takes the Cycloid down, grabs onto it and rips its gigantic eye out. He kicks it through the fieldgoal post.

* A driving sequence is up next. Duke is driving through a canyon in a monster truck. Alien ships are shooting the canyons to drop boulders in his path.

* The monster truck eventually runs out of gas, and Duke has to go on foot. Luckily he has an alien sniper rifle and a pistol with a laser sight.

* Next he encounters some of the pig aliens. They are incredibly agile, more boar-like in their movements: They gallop on all fours and are brutal at close quarters. One of them drops an RPG when he's killed. This area is vast and completely open, reminiscent of Borderlands. As expected the RPG makes a big mess of the pigs -- blood is everywhere.

We now know that Gearbox started working on the game year ago, and owns the IP. We'll bring you more information on the game as soon as we can. Man, Duke Nukem Forever is actually coming out in 2011. Who would've thought?

What has this been... 15 years or so that this game has been development? Lol Chances are very high that is going to blow chunks. Don’t get your hopes up here people.

Ahhh, nothing like kicking ass and chewing gum, all while saving the babes and being politically incorrect.

Anyone have any impressions on the game? I mean, if they were at PAX or from a news source?

Did you fail to notice the post I made, about 3 above yours, of a GI story about the demo?

I just copied and paste the article, but why do you think it is the PC? From what I read, the demo was only on a 360.

After 12 years! It's finally time to kick some ass and chew bubble gum..... and I'm all out of gum.

2011 is going to be one hell of a year for gaming.

Everyone's caught up in the fact that it's actually comming out. It won't matter if the game sucks though.

For me personally no lol as long as it adds something. But I'd be thrilled if they could make the game not suck
