Digital optic cable questions - Blu-ray Forum

Hello:
Has anyone noticed much difference between the higher end optical cables [Monster, Belkin] and the more generic, lower end ones?

I need to buy another one because I borrowed the cable that was going from my LCD to my reciever when I bought my Blu-Ray player.

Just curious.

you most likely wont notice a difference between name brand cables and generic cables...theres cables on amazon that cost 1 dollar and are comparable to 70 dollar monster cables.

with that being said, ive noticed that most people prefer the thicker optical cables as opposed to the thinner, for some reason.

shouldn't be a quality of sound issue, either a digital signal is received or it's not.

Analog quality matters though

I guess it depends on your set-up if you have a $5,000, $10,000, or over $15,000 dollar system you start looking at cable pricing and since you already spent so much on everythin else you may as well go with the best. The point is don't skrimp on the end, pay the relative price for cabling as you did for the components. It's like comparing spending the few extra hundred dollars of a blu-ray over DVD. IMO. Distances of cable run also come into the factor, as well as the output of the amp/receiver.
