Am I the only one who think it’s ridiculous that the reviewers on this site always gives «overall score» based on if they liked the movie or not? This movie is a great example. Great PQ, AQ and Extras, but still just a 2.5 score.

You could just read the PQ/AQ/Extras portion of the review and skip pas the personal opinion of what that person thinks of said feature. It's not worth getting bent out of shape over another person's opinion.

FYI, each reviewer on this site has a different style and there is no set policy on what the "overall" score means, so please don't blanket everyone together in that way.
The site I came from had a "replay" rating in place of an "overall" score, which I felt was a valuable tool. It's part of what I base my "overall" rating on, which in my mind is a combination of many things: overall impression, a weighted average (with a lot of the weight going to the movie rating, of course) and, yes, how often I might re-watch said movie. In this case, that would have been lower than a 2.5 but the good to excellent aspects of this release (A/V, extras) bumped it up a little. Only in rare cases -- a "guilty pleasure" movie, for example, or one whose extras go far above and beyond -- would I give a higher "overall" score than the movie rating. Again, though, that's just my opinion and the other reviewers here also have their own -- we try to follow certain guidelines but are in no way a hive mind, which is a good thing. Either way, star or point ratings are kind of a necessary evil to satisfy the "TL, DR" type. If you read the whole review and I've done my job correctly, hopefully that should offer enough of an explanation. Thanks for reading! I'll gladly take mixed to negative feedback over nothing. ![]() |

I mean to be fair, the movie itself is the main part of the overall package. A blu-ray of a crappy movie, even if it had amazing video quality and hours of bonus features, is still a crappy movie. You're not buying Detective Pikachu just so you can watch the bonuses and not care about the movie itself, you're buying it because you're a Pokemon fan and you liked the movie.
(Note: I enjoyed Detective Pikachu when I saw it in theaters and I plan on buying the 4K release. This isn't a knock against the movie.) |

Did anyone redeem their HD movie in Google Play?
Want to know if Google upgrades the movie to 4k after a couple of days |
