Default ICE ("Immersive Cinema Experience") Coming To North America

Quote:
AEG and CGR Cinemas are bringing "ICE" theaters ("immersive cinema experience) to North America for the first time. The technology, which has been around in France for awhile, is the newest "Premium Large Format" idea to arrive over here in hopes of both challenging IMAX (and Dolby Vision) and banking on moviegoers willing to pay a little extra for a little extra.

"The ICE (“Immersive Cinema Experience”) THEATER concept launched two-and-a-half years ago, combining state-of-the-art design and excellence in sound and image technologies with the revolutionary ICE IMMERSIVE sensorial experience. ICE IMMERSIVE technology features five non-reflecting LED-panels flanking each side of the auditorium to fill the moviegoer’s peripheral vision with complementary colors from the front screen. CGR’s in-house post-production team in La Rochelle creates ambient images for the panels and syncs them to each film showcased using this technology."

Each location features luxury seats, superior immersive sound and RGB laser projection , along with the "ICE IMMERSIVE" experience with LED panels on the side walls.

The first theater, beginning this Fall, will be at Regal L.A. Live.

How is showing complementary colours and ambient images on the side walls a new technology?

I want Smell--Vision.

They surely will, or they’re just dumb or don’t care.

Barco Escape didn't make it and neither will this. Sorry to be so negative but I'm just giving my honest opinion.

The press release mentions five screens for immersive viewing but what about the other 20 screens on the phones of the a**holes sitting in front of you, do those count?

Is Screen-X even still relevant?

No, not really. Although theres still a few scattered around the US. IMAX is still king and Dolby is Queen at the moment.

A new ScreenX auditorium opened at a Regal near me just a month ago, so they are slowly expanding. Just like 4DX theaters.

I don’t think ScreenX is that great, but it’s better than a standard screening.

That's what I'm thinking. IMAX, Dolby Cinema, 3D, RPX and 4DX are good enough.

It looks gimmicky. TBH, i'll just stick to a standard showing.

Okay... so they're doing in theaters what Phillips did...oh about 15 years ago with reactive lighting on the back of their flat screen TVs. Remember.

Can't wait for these gimmick premium formats to die out. Go to a theme park if you're looking for some excitement.

They should change the name of the theater to ISIS, see how well that goes over.
