There are lots of imports available on both sides.

I have Bruce Almighty and Face/Off on Blu-ray imported from the UK.

Yes there are lots of cross platform releases in the world (like this):

Even Disney has at least one release on HD DVD---Bridge to Terabithia was made available in a red case in Italy.

Doesn't mean much in the grand scheme.

I agree that it doesnt mean much, but you hate to see a movie from one of your biggest supporters (sony) released on its rival format.

The company distributing that movie in Germany has just released a statement that they will be supporting Blu Ray exclusively.

I'd say it helps almost as much as cheaper hardware, a "finished product," lack of region coding, a head start in the market, and the support of the DVD Forum.

The company does, but HD DVD has ZERO chance of survival.

Amen.

This import also has the Image Constraint Token on it.

Quote:
Important Notice: This German 'Resident Evil: Apocalypse' disc is one of the first HD DVDs to be flagged with an Image Constraint Token. If your HD DVD player is connected by HDMI to your display, there should be no issue in viewing the movie at its full 1080p resolution. Unfortunately, viewers connected by Component Video will find the image downconverted to 480p Standard Definition. This is extremely disappointing, to say the least.
