This transfer is absolutely TERRIBLE!

I don't know what to call it-- edge enhancement issues? It's far beyond that, actually. It's as if the codec was messed-up or something.

I'm amazed nobody else has discussed it.

Over 130 blu-rays owned, and this is, bar none, the worst example of Blu-ray I have every seen as far as edge issues. Yuck!

I have to agree with you. The transfer was one of the worst Blu-Rays I have seen. So disappointing.

What the hell?! I never found anything wrong with the transfer. Still looks and sounds great to me. Many of you probably got a bad copy or something.

I could be mistaken, but it may have to do with several things. The film stock used, intentional grain(it was a western after all), the mastering process, including the transfer. Something else to remember as well is that on dvd it looked nice, but it was only a 480p resolution. When it hit blu ray with a 1080p resolution, it brought out the flaws within the film, edge enhancement, moire pattern, noise, or whatever.

Looks like a 1080 x 1440 image resized with nearest neighbor to 1080 x 1920 to me, similar to how Lethal Weapon 2 Full Metal Jacket (original) etc look. Turning the sharpness edge enhancment to flat helps and looks ok.

I can't believe people aren't asking for a recall on this disc.

There was evidently some serious error in putting this to blu-ray. The grain doesn't bother me -- it's the stairstepping that's way, way over the top. Unbelievable. I can see the stair-steps from across the room, it's that bad.

It is. I liked this movie, but the transfer is just awful. Dez, how can you not see this?? Did they put out different runs of the discs?

Rewatched this again last night and it really is a pretty bad transfer. Can't believe out of all the movies that have had multiple BD releases that this hasn't had one. The movie itself is good enough to warrant a new transfer.

I own the Japanese Blu-ray and it's as crap as the US.
I believe the German disc is better. Still the same master, but not pixelated.
