Downrange, a “terrifying” new thriller starring newcomer Kelly Connaire, Stephanie Pearson (Insidious: Chapter 2), Rod Hernandez-Farella, Anthony Kirlew, Alexa Yeames (The CW’s The Originals), and Jason Tobias (ABC Television’s Notorious).

“Six college students are carpooling cross-country when one of their tires blows out on a desolate stretch of country road. Getting out to fix the flat, they quickly discover that this was no accident. The tire was shot out. With their vehicle incapacitated, the group is pinned down and mercilessly attacked by an unseen assailant as they desperately attempt to find a way to escape.”

I saw this last October...and it's bad. Real bad. Kinda "this is so bad that is ends up being fun" bad though.

Definitely curious to see people's reactions and reviews to this film. Since it's Shudder, I'll give it a re-watch too. I've definitely left festivals feeling negative about a film, only to revisit it later and enjoy it. Seeing 13-14 features in 2.5 days really breaks you down towards the end.

No idea what Shudder is (guessing like Netflix for low-budget horror) but you had me at "Kitamura". Versus was wild, and The Midnight Meat Train is one of my favorite horror films ever.

It's not low-budget. But it is a horror-specific streaming service. It's only $5/month, so it's extremely affordable. That's like 1 espresso drink from Starbucks for a month worth of horror viewing.

They pick up a lot of exclusives from film festivals. So many things I've seen at the Telluride Horror Show end up getting released on Shudder (which is where I saw Downrange).

They've got a huge catalog of older films, and a good amount of modern as well. Foreign, domestic. Even some shorts as well.

Some modern films (past 5 years):

Operation Avalanche, Cold Hell, Rift, Dead Shack, Honeymoon, Mayhem, Mr. Jones, It Stain the Sand Red, The World of Kanako, Better Watch Out, 31, Spring, Uncle John, The Sacrament, Let Me Make You a Martyr, The Club, etc etc.

Some old classics like Black Sunday, Black Sabbath, The Evil Eye, Demons, Cat O Nine Tails, Zombie, The Beyond, The Wicker Man, Black Christmas, Nosferatu, Night of the Living Dead.

Tons of Giallo. Asian horror.

I could go on and on about how great Shudder is, how great their selection is, and how inexpensive it is. Definitely a disservice to consider it a "Low-budget Netflix of horror".

If you have Amazon Prime, it can be added on to the video service.

Also, certain podcasts offer a free month. I think MovieCrypt and ShockWaves.

I've never seen any of the director's foreign films, but I loved Midnight Meat Train and No One Lives.

Love the score for No One Lives, especially the end credits theme.

I watched it on Shudder a week or so ago, and didn't exactly love it but found it fairly engaging and at times downright vicious. Significantly lower budget than the director's previous films and some really bad CGI for some of the bigger moments.

But if you have Shudder anyway, it's basically free, so it's worth a viewing in that regard. I'll probably check out Dead Shack, another Shudder exclusive, when I get home tonight.

His foreign films are better than his English language ones. Versus, Azumi, Lupin, Godzilla: Final Wars...

I found it to be really entertaining. I'd give it a B. I added Shudder to my Amazon mainly so I could watch this one but it's only $5 a month so I'm probably keeping them.

Someone on OhNoTheyDidnt claimed this had a twist ending so I watched it. No twist ending. Film was average at best, forgettable. Acting was bad from the complete unknowns. Decent premise.
