Default Audio Optical Issue

Hi, I have my PS3 connected with HDMI to TV. I do not have an HDMI input on my surround sound receiver, so I am using an Optical Cable from PS3 to receiver.

When I set the audio settings to optical, I get no sound. I tried changing the channels on the receiver, but still nothing.

Can anyone please help me, I know I've gotten it to work awhile ago I just have no idea what could be wrong.

be sure you have the PS3 outputting through optical...Settings - Sound Settings - Audio Outputformat - Digital Optical...

then set it to bitstream.

If that still doesnt work, then it sounds like you need to configure the Receiver Input button to accept optical.

I had the same problem, and could not figure out what I was doing wrong. Eventually, I realized that I was not completing the audio set-up on the PS3 menu. After you get to the screen that tells you to choose bitstream, you need to continue to arrow right and complete the set-up (it does not automatically go to the next screen). When I finally got it, I was like "duh", but it was not real intuitive to me at the time, and I'm a freakin' engineer!

Keep moving right in the sound menu and you should get it. At least, that's how I remember doing it.

thanks for the help; however nothing has worked yet. I have gotten it to work before.

The surround sound system is a Sony STR-K700. 800w ( 6 ohms THD 10% )

Digital Audio Input
Coaxial x 1 / Optical x 1

Analog Audio Input x 4

any ideas?
