Default I Swayed An HD-DVD Follower To The Blu-Side

When Toshiba had that fire sale during the holiday season my twin brother's co-worker was stupid enough to believe that HD-DVD was the way to go. To both of our dismay he continued to believe that the cheap price was the way to go. Well, besides the fact that his disks were not playing well my brother and I decided to drop a bomb shell on him last week with the Warner announcement and how all future titles after June 1st, 2008 would be Blu-exclusive. Well, that was all the convincing he needed. He returned his HD-Dud player to Best Buy and paid the difference for a PS3. My brother welcomed him to the Blu-Side when he arrived for work this morning. I just wanted to share my joy with you all lol.

I would have welcomed him to the Blu side with a Blu movie in my hand to give him.

BB is going to have a hell of time with all those open items. Perhaps thy need to threaten To-shit-ba in to talking them back or pull all they're products from the shelves. Or at least to $99 the price of upconvert players so all those fools who own hd dvd can buy a second player

I almost feel sorry enough for retailers to bail them out by buying an HD DVD player. Then I hear one of the reps selling someone a 4' Monster Ultra 1000 cable so they can connect an HD cable tuner to their TV. They'll make the money back somewhere.

Oh I hardly feel bad for BB I just want the players out of there as to avoid more confusion for the uninformed consumer

I had my own experience just this morning. A good friend and co-worker had bought early on HD-DVD and we've had our friendly, good-natured arguments about the format wars. He was counting on Microsoft's backing but he bought a high-end stand-alone HD-DVD player.

He hadn't heard the news about Warner (or any news surrounding CES) yet so I talked to him and sent him a TON of links / news / updates. The reply?

"Great... bad time to tell you I still have a laserdisc player laying around in the closet, too, right? So what Blu-Ray player do you recommend I go purchase?"

I told him about the various deals on bundling movies, etc and I think he's leaning toward the PS3 even though he's NOT A GAME PLAYER WHATSOEVER (Take that HD-DVD association!).

He said he'll likely eBay his HD-DVD player this weekend just to get rid of it. I told him he needed to bundle it up with the Laserdisc player and his Betamax VCR as a combo auction.

Chalk up another convert... and one with DEEP pockets living in Scottsdale. When this guy starts buying Blu-Ray movies he'll buy 20 or 30 at a time.

You know that your brother's friend was not alone in his mind set and thinking about buying a hd dvd player.

Unfortunate that he did not heed your advice and listen to the facts and do some serious research on his part before diving into the red team.

Glad to hear he has come to his senses though.

We all must stay on this and keep spreading the blu word.

lucky to have brothers (or family) interested in this thing. I got none from my family. I am a technological freak (the gene comes from my maternal grandpa - RIP), while none of my family is.
