Default A Large Bluray collection gets you what these days.

Okay, my collection is almost 900 blurays, and its 11 years after launch day. My Bluray collection didn't get me a girlfriend. Blurays gave me bragging rights, but my collages stream everything. Co-Workers don't have DirecTV or Dish or cable, but we watch ESPNews during lunch break. So I'm the only one with a big collection. I also have 1250 videogames and thats gave me bragging rights in the real world, more-so then movies ever did. I photograph everything and that made me popular on Instagram and at work. Was it your bluray collection that made your Instagram profile go viral? Does your boss keep you employed because of your large collection?

My Blu Ray and videogame collection has given me hours of entertainment and the piece of mind knowing that I'll own these releases for the rest of my days barring some catastrophe. They've also provided me with hours upon hours of escape from the stresses of life and allowed me to enter worlds I'd never dreamed of.

I buy movies and video games because they make me happy. Not to make friends or find a significant other. I met my wife before I could afford all my movies and games and while I had a decent collection of games at the time (back in 2002) it grew exponentially during the mid 2000's. My movie collection really took off in 2012 until now as my game buying has cooled considerably.

I like being able to share my hobby with others, which is why I post as much as I do on these boards, but it's an added benefit to why I purchase, not one of the reasons why I purchase or share online.

so everybody collects bluray so they can experience things to escape stress and live without mental illness. Since stress causes mental illness anyhow. I see now.

In what world would someone keep an employee simply because they have a bunch of movies?

This had me a little concerned, this sounds so much like me, I thought that I posted this without remembering. Thank heavens for small miracles.

A large collection of anything, doesn't really get you much of value at all. The primary reason for collecting is that it brings the collector at least a small amount of joy.

I am going to give you some advice that I wish I had heeded..

If you aren't enjoying the things you used to, take a few steps back and take time for yourself. And if you have people that care for you and love you, talk to them.

Ask for help, find the beauty and or simplicity in your life and enjoy it. Savor it.

yeah i'm not enjoying things like a decade ago. Then again, I can't find or rebuy all these videogames or blurays in my entire life. Then I look at snowmobiles and ATVs and realized that normal people buy those things and I'm not normal so. Snowmobiles and ATVs don't guarantee popularity, but everyone buys those. Blurays are the wrong decision or snowmobiles and ATVs must be the right one.

I see a lot of gym pictures on Instagram and they must be more correct then I am. Maybe normal people are the smart ones and we are the dumb ones.

my bluray collection makes me happy. plain and simple.

i don't need it to make me popular online or in real life. it's my private collection for my enjoyment.

plain and simple, cut and dry.

not sure if this thread is serious or not.

Collecting for bragging rights is rather fruitless. Most people won't care about the size of your collection, and rubbing their faces in it will only make you seem arrogant. Especially since most folks throw various criticisms about it back at you: phrases like "that must have been a lot of money," or "have you ever watched all of them?" or "why buy them when you can stream them?" and garbage like that.

Of course, girls won't be interested in the size of your collection. They probably don't care, or else they see it as a financial liability. At worst, they might think you're over-compensating.

1,200+ video games, holy crap dude. I have like a few hundred PS3 and PS4 games, and it's been a struggle for me to play them all to completion. I'm actually thinking about ditching some, even though I haven't played them, because they don't all thrill me (and my drive to game has gone down for some reason). But I understand how this would attract more attention--gaming is a more involving and impressive hobby than movie-watching.

I don't do Instagram, so I've never gone "viral" with anything. If I ever do go viral, I'd hope it would be for something I've done or created (like my own short film or a good photograph) than collections. And my employers don't give a flying rip about my collection. If anything, it might be seen as a vulnerability, especially financially. Why would bosses care about collections anyway? If it's a common interest, then sure, I can talk about film--but collections, I'd only divulge if they ask.

But my collection has become a vulnerability for me personally. My finances have suffered a little from buying from too many boutique labels and flashy imports. But they impress no one. And when it comes to the movies themselves, I come to realize that a bigger collection is not always better. It's flooded with titles I vaguely like but hardly remember or care about, and I'm on the verge of doing a massive purge on it. Less is more--it's better to have a modest collection of good movies than a huge collection of mediocre ones.

I've gone through a phase of rethinking my own priorities--I'd recommend taking a good look at your own collection and asking who are you really collecting for and why?

I have all the rarest and expensive videogames. I thought I was absolutely right collecting videogames when I was age 8-31. I thought I was da bomb for buying all of it. I thought I would be highly regarded everywhere. I thought I would meet rich Americans with videogames. I thought it would get me 3000 Facebook friends.

Seems like you are collecting movies and games for the wrong reasons. That's always going to lead to disappointment in the end.

I'm serious. I collect those things because they bring me enjoyment. Not because I want people to like me for the stuff I have. You talk about buying all this stuff because you thought people would like you more. That's the wrong way to go about collecting.

I've been to enough people's houses that I only see a few dvds under a shelf. Not that I have as much as some of you, but I'm the only one I know in real life that has gift sets, steelbooks, etc.

I feel like this is going to devolve into a pissing contest sooner or later so I'll just add this now. This was taken in 2013 in my basement, the last time I dug everything out. No games are pictured, but you can guess what that would look like. Not pictured that I now own are the Wii U, and Xbox one.
