Set during the height of the Vietnam War and deep in the swamps of Louisiana, a group of National Guardsmen have been ordered to partake in a simulated jungle exploration in an isolated part of Cajun country. After getting lost during the training mission, the soldiers commandeer canoes belonging to the locals in order to take a shortcut. Went in to this with minimal expectations the first time I watched, and left as a lifelong fan when it ended. A taut thriller and one of Walter Hill’s best. Excellent pickup by VS!

Speaking of which, thank God for boutiques. VS, casually dropping Southern Comfort on 4k at random, while catalog mega-slumlord Warner Bros couldn’t be arsed to drop Deliverance on uhd in 2022, not even for the film’s FIFTIETH anniversary....that's absolutely frikkin' pathetic, WB.
