Default Anyone own 2 ps3's? Account Question

I'm finishing up my game room this week and I'm putting in a new LCD and I'm looking to buy a 2nd ps3 for this room. I already have one in my living room for both gaming and movie purposes on a 1080p tv.

So my question is if you have 2 ps3's in your house how does that work for account management?

Do you have to create a totally new profile?

We created local user accounts on the other 2 PS3's with the same name and then just associated them with their respective PSN accounts.

Game saves are local so currently you will need to copy them back and forth...there are a few games I believe that don't let you do that but most do. Hopefully in the future they will provide a conduit via the PSN for your game saves to be copied around.

I've read, you can activate the acct on something like 5 ps3s. I don't know though.

I do know, when I had service done and I got a different unit, I was able to activate my PS3 onto that account. And redownload the software.

However, given that someone else in the US prolly has my old PS3 now [fixed I hope ], I can't exactly test if the old ps3 can still play back.

There is an option for the PLAYSTATION®Network on your PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system to "Activate System". This option will register a PLAYSTATION 3 system or a PSP® portable entertainment system to your PLAYSTATION Network account. This option will allow certain PLAYSTATION®Store content to be downloaded to those registered systems (i.e., PS One titles for the PSP system, etc.)

Please note only a maximum of five PLAYSTATION 3 systems maybe registered to a PLAYSTATION Network account at a time. If you wish to deactivate a system from your PLAYSTATION Network account, you must do so by accessing the PLAYSTATION Network account on the registered PLAYSTATION 3 system you wish to deactivate.

This is very interesting and makes sense if it does work. I have to think Sony took this into consideration as this system is really a home ent center.

I know that I would have to transfer the game saves, not so much a big deal to me. I just don't want to have two different user names for playing games depending on which room I'm playing it in.

It looks like you can download content up to 5 machines, god I hope Warhawk is included in that so I don't have to buy it again?

It should be.

I was able to redownload the 'games' I needed to redownload when I got transfer. However, not Warhawk [since I don't own it], so I can't answer that definantively.

You -should- be able to though, if not, call Sony up and ask.

You can use the same account on both. I have a PS3 downstairs (mine) and one upstairs (brother's). My brother can come down to my room and play his account on my PS3 and vice versa. PSN games can be downloaded up to 5 times, but Warhwak was excluded for that. For games that have that restriction, it's better to buy a real copy if you want to play it on different systems.

Warhawk can be downloaded on up to 5 machines..however if you play it on console x then you have to wait 24 hours before you can play it on console y .... and it is only playable under the account that purchased it.

One time fee for download or use solely by the purchasing PSN account on up to five PS3 units, with no more than one activated PS3 unit within a 24 hour period. Content may not be used by any other account."

The BD has no such limitations .. also allows LAN play as well as access by secondary accounts. Which is why I went with the BD.

But once it is downloaded then it sounds like I would be able to play it as long as its from the same account? Does that sound right?

Welcome .. the only advantages I could see to the PSN route was ..

1. No disc to damage so the game is "indestructible" .. but also means you can't trade it in etc.
2. Don't have to get up to put in the disc.

P.S. At launch I was ready to pay the regular price for the flexibility and trade-in value...however BestBuy in Canada had the BD with the headset for $35 .. sweet deal.

Yes. The account that made the purchase (AFAIK).

Unless you have an aversion to the BD that's the route I would recommend.

For example, since the PSN is free.. at some point you may like to have multiple on-line accounts/aliases for yourself. With the BD you would be able to play under any of those accounts..the download route you wouldn't.

Or if you want someone else to have an account down the road...

...think longer term would be my advice.

Well, the problem is that I bought warhawk from PSN back in October not anticipating getting a 2nd unit so soon. Going forward I have to consider the longterm conv versus instant gratification.

The goal right now would to be able to play warhawk w/o buying it again for the 2nd unit.

i own 2 ps3s; basically you just don't bother creating a new account, and tell the new ps3 to sign in with your existing account (with the email address that you created your original account with, of course).

you will be able to redownload (afaik) all of your PSN store purchases. however, i believe some games (like warhawk) have limits on how many additional systems you can install it onto (like 5? i don't actually own warhawk, so i don't know for certain).

you could of course create a new account too, using another email addy.
