This will be the 10th (numbered) entry in the Ys saga.

While it will retain the series’ smooth and exhilarating gameplay, other areas are being re-examined. And while not quite a Soulslike, the challenge is to see whether it is possible to implement steadily-paced one-on-one combat in which the player can watch the enemy’s movements. It is a lighter-feeling, Ys-style Soulslike.

Adol is around the age he was in Ys I & II.

The story might be set outside the Romun Empire.

Changing weapon attributes by swapping between party members will change significantly.

I’ve only played VIII, IX and Memories of Celceta, so I’d be fully on board with that if they don’t want to do a full Trials of Mana level remake of earlier titles.

The next game in Falcom's long-running Ys series was announced overnight. It's officially called Ys X: Nordics, and it's coming to both PS5 and PS4 in 2023 — but only in Japan for now. Hopefully we won't have to wait too long for NIS America to publish the title over here in the West.

We've got some pretty juicy details about the game as well. As translated by Gematsu, the adventure will take place across the "northern sea Obelia Bay", and you'll even get to control protagonist Adol's ship as you sail from island to island. Naval battles are also part of the equation.

Meanwhile, Falcom opens up a bit on the combat system, which has apparently been "drastically revamped". "In the speedy 'Solo Mode', the player controls one character with the help of automatic attacks and support from their partner. In 'Combination Mode', the player can simultaneously control a series of actions for both characters to take on formidable foes in back-and-forth combat."

Some people were already complaining about the graphics after the announcement. For me, I'll play it regardless someday. I still have VIII to play, and then eventually IX, so it will likely be a long while.

With them using a new engine for this it will ideally be the better looking than Ys IX, which even though its not a stunner its not ugly. Hopefully they keep up the 4K60 or at least north of 1440p60 as fidelity/graphical quality increases.

I was just going by some of the comments. I get that new games like Tales of Arise are really good looking games, but it will be fine by me as long as it has good resolution and 60 FPS like you said.

This game is officially the reason I want to finally get a PS5 sooner rather than later. Don’t really care about GTA VI or whatever hyper realistic thing is coming out - I want Ys X, which will probably look like a middling PS4 game…at best! Ha! Hell, it kind of sounds like the Switch is their main focus in developing the game so it probably won’t even reach basic PS4 levels. Even if I still don’t have a PS5 by the time it comes out in the US, I’ll still get a copy of the PS5 version ASAP.

I played Ys The Vanished Omens on the old Sega Master System and thought that was a great adventure RPG game. I've played some of the newer ones and they're interesting too.

Those screenshots look pretty good. As much as I've loved Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana (about to finish it), this will be high up on my list of upcoming games. It's just a matter of how many years it will be before they release it here.

Lol, I finished it on Monday. I started up Resident Evil 4 now, but I'm not going to play IX until the PS5 version comes out. I know it might seem silly since the PS5 version of VIII isn't a big upgrade, but I might as well wait regardless so I can own it physically (and it likely being a free Deluxe Edition again like VIII essentially is).
