"Industry watchers were abuzz with reports that retailers were seeing heavy return rates on HD DVD players since Christmas after buyers realized many of the movies they wanted were only on Blu-ray."

*Ouch* Must hurt to be Toshiba (sole-manufacturer of HD-DVD players). The market is showing that the average consumer knows what is happening.

Sometimes people forget that J6P has brains also...well at least enough brains to know to return a dud player when they can't play blu ray discs lol.

The pro-DUD comments are hilarious. Talk about ignorance... even willful ignorance.

Many of us here, including me, predicted this very thing.

Talking That's right

There is a funny contrast between the hardware for the 2 formats:

At my local Best Buy, every Sony, Sharp, Samsung, and Panasonic BD player was SOLD OUT! There were only 2 of the LG combo left.

There was a pile of HD DVD players (10 or 12) and half of them were OPEN BOX RETURNS (with yellow tape on them).

Reading the DUD's comments - hypothetically lets say that Download won - 2 years later - I'll be downloading on my PS3 - So, I still won with my PS3 --

Like I've been saying, Toshiba's only way out of this is by releasing it's own Blu Ray players, which I predict will happen by October 2008.

They can melt down three or four DUD players and build one Blu Ray player !

I was talking to a buddy in retail who carries both formats and his Toshiba rep said the plan is to flood the market with cheap players and get the format back on-line. I said, "Aint gonna happen. People know what's going on, the slashed prices look like a desperation move and E-bay is flooded with the players."

Toshiba must have shit for brains. Why would anybody in their right mind continue to buy movies in dud when they know it going to die quickly.

But, But, But, But, But.....HD-DVD was literally FLYING off the shelves during Q4 2007 while overpriced, anti-consumer Blu-Ray players were collecting dust. And, And, And, And...Planet Earth being the #1 disc on Amazon for weeks on end meant HD-DVD was slowly but surely eating away Blu-Ray's software lead.......

(Man, I'd love to see what those jokers like Nfinity have to say about all this. I bet he changed his name and moved to Fiji. Err maybe he is still trolling over at Engadget...haven't checked.)
