The original Caine/Olivier was a classic, but Harold Pinter's weird new interpretation reportedly cuts off the original "third" twist ending (which we could SPOILER if the forum had a Hide Text feature), which was the whole climax of the original play. ![]() ![]() ![]() Moral: Don't mess with the classics. |

Great great f'ing movie.
May not be for everyone, but the performances are phenomenal. Jude Law and Michael Caine are at the top of their game. PQ is quite good, sharp picture ith vivid colors. AQ is good, nothing overly showcase worthy due to the dialogue driven nature of the film. |

Rent the original (with Caine and Olivier)--
It doesn't have Cool Techno sets, and it doesn't screw up the ending. ![]() |

Sleuth Blu-Ray would not play in my BDP-S300 with firware 3.8. Sent email to Sony Technical Support. They wanted me to call them, but offered no other support via email. Has anyone had a similar problem with Sleuth? BTW ...I tried two BR disks.

May be like Crank 2--Wouldn't play in my box either..I put a 2 gig thumb drive in the back of my blu player and it played all right..No prob's..Same thing happened with Crank 2...Guess the newer B ray players with internal memory doesn't need extra from a thumb drive for the fancy menues..Dunno

It's stuck in rights hell. The Bristol-Myers/Squibb people own the original (along with some others they financed with Edgar J. Shereck's Palomar label in the early 1970's, such as the original Heartbreak Kid and the original Stepford Wives) and won't license to anyone for some reason (they were last in print in the early 2000's, when Disney/ABC had licensed most of the library and had Anchor Bay or MGM release them on DVD). Apparently, Paramount showed interest for the titles as they had remade The Stepford Wives, distributed the remake of The Heartbreak Kid for DreamWorks, and held foreign rights to the Sleuth remake but nothing was worked out.
Oddly, ABC owns the rights to the original film's score and licensed that to Intrada a few years back. |

Sleuth (2007) is frankly not a very good film. I will say the cinematography is quite nice with some striking shots. As far as performances go Michael Caine is quite good as usual but jude law falls flat. The blu ray picture quality is very good as well as audio.
