Default multi channel question

I have a sony receiver that I am currently using a toslink cable for sound. The receiver is a 7 channel and matrix's the rear 2 speakers. my bd player has 5.1 multichannel out and my receiver has 5.1 multichannel in. Is there a way to make it matrix the rear two channels in using multichannel instead of toslink?

thanks

I dunno, you'd probably have to tell them what model it is.

But either way you should use the Analog Multichannel in's so you can get Lossless audio. you won't regret it either way.

I don't know anything about that model, but look through the owner's manual and in the speaker set up section it should discuss that.

i assume you are sending the bitstream across the optical cable? you should read the owner's manual to see how and if your receiver can deliver 5.1 bitstreams to a 7.1 speaker setup. some receivers will only do this with linear PCM sources in which case you'll need an HDMI connection.

with a optical cable i can send a 5.1 or 6.1 signal and the receiver will send it out to all 7 speakers (the rear speakers aren't used in 5.1) and it will matrix them giving them sound where when i did the 5.1 multi channel input the rear speakers had no sound.
