I believe all Blu-rays of 1492 are the same cut, by the way. I have the French disc and it is sped up, it's 149 minutes at 25 fps versus the German disc that is 156 minutes at 23.976 fps. The Spanish disc, also 149 minutes, is likely equal to the French one.

I have the German blu-ray and the spaniard blu-ray. The German blu-ray is the Extended International Cut (156 min) and the spaniard blu-ray is the Theatrical Version (149 min). The french blu-ray is equal, like you said, to the spaniard blu-ray.

Thank you.

I had the German Blu-ray at a point, it is the same cut as the French disc. As I said, the run time difference is because of the French disc being 1080i at a higher fps (4% faster). I don't know about the Spanish disc, but if it's running at 25 fps also, it's the same cut as the others.

I would love a Blu ray of Matchstick Men, which I think is one of Scott's most underrated and best films, and also beautiful looking to boot.

crs,

You are right, my bad. The german blu-ray and the spaniard blu-ray have the same cut of the film, also as the french blu-ray.

- French blu-ray 149 min (pal, 4% faster)
- German blu-ray 156 min (Region free)
- Spaniard blu-ray 149 min (pal, 4% faster, running at 25 fps) (Region free)

Thank you for the clarification.

Regards,

Ridley Scott is one of my favorite directors, but in all honesty, his movies are a mixed bag. The only movies of his that are worth owning are Alien, Blade Runner, Prometheus, and Gladiator. Others, like American Gangster, Body of Lies, Legend, and Kingdom of Heaven, while incredible, don't really have any replay value. And then of course you have his stinkers like Robin Hood, The Counselor, Hannibal, and Exodus looks down right terrible.

I'd be up for a blu of it too.

Big fan of Scott. While he's not the most consistent director, when he knocks it out of the park, it's amazing to watch. I maybe in the minority, but I think Exodus looks awesome and I can't wait to see it.

Im a big fan of Ridley but looking at that list of his films above, there is an obvious drop - for me - from after Blade Runner to before Gladiator there of 18 years! I'm just not interested in owning anything in that time. I did like Black Rain but not enough to buy it.

I would add Legend to the good camp, and Black Rain as well, which you didn't mention. Otherwise I agree with your assessments. He's a very up and down filmmaker, especially after the 80's.

Kingdom of Heaven has plenty of reply value. What a silly thing to say. I'd also put it near the top of any film Ridley has made.

Thelma & Louise is the best movie of his from between Blade Runner - Gladiator, by a wide margin, in my opinion.

Also LOL @ Prometheus being one of the only 4 films of his worth owning.

Never seen Black Rain or Thelma & Louise. There are some on that list I have never seen.

It isn't silly. I bought KoH when the EE came to DVD, but never got the chance to watch it before it came out on BD, which was one of the first BDs I bought. I watched it once and found myself just never in the mood to watch it again so I got rid of it back in 2012 when I decided to purge my movie collection of movies I haven't watched in more than 3 years.

As I said haven't seen it, it just doesn't appeal to me.

Prometheus was an incredible movie. It was creative, original, and visually stunning. It took what I loved about Alien and added to it. Yes, it is a flawed movie, but it is still a phenomenal one and was one of 2012's best movies.

Now if the sequel sucks, then Prometheus will not be worth owning.

I laughed because out of Ridley's 22 films (since you have already made up your mind that Exodus is going to be terrible) you only included 4 as worth owning, one of which is a highly divisive movie. If you had a longer list and Prometheus was still included, I probably wouldn't have had any reaction. But to each his own.

Also, if the sequel sucks then that will retroactively ruin Prometheus for you and you'll have to sell your copy? Must be a shaky foundation of love you have for it.

I'm going to go see Exodus, I hope it is good, but I don't have high hopes from it. You just can't make stories from the bible interesting. However, it is Ridley Scott, it deals with Egypt, so I need to see it at least once.

Movies that are written to be sequel bait are movies that can be made or broken based on their sequels. The Amazing Spider-Man was a good movie, but the sequel completely ruined all of its momentum. Prometheus is made for its sequels, so if one of them is bad, the whole series is ruined. The same goes for Man of Steel. If (and it probably will) Batman vs Superman: The 150 Minute Trailer for Justice League sucks, Man of Steel is not worth rewatching ever again.

I wouldn't have gotten rid of The Matrix Reloaded and Pirates Dead Man's Chest if their sequels didn't suck. However, Revolutions and At World's End were such terrible movies that it makes it impossible to enjoy the predecessors when the story is unfinished in those.

Have you never watched an anime where you immensely enjoyed the first 23 episodes only to have the last three episodes of the series just completely ruin it to the point where the whole thing is unwatchable?

Also, I have a huge movie collection. Any time I can get rid of one movie, it is for the good because it means one less movie to watch. Why should I keep a movie I will only watch every five or so years when I have movies that I watch every 1-2 years?
