This one's been getting good reviews. Of course, if Tuesday is not for you, you can always try Wednesday.

Quote:
An early scene in the small-scale and adventurous Tuesday reveals that Zora, the single mom played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus, knows how to bargain. That’s good, because soon she’ll be bargaining with Death. And it’s especially good to see this gifted actor channel her brilliant knack for comic neurosis into dark, weird territory that’s steeped in grief and its seven stages.

Daina O. Pusić, a London-based writer-director who hails from Croatia, takes a courageous leap into allegory and performance-based animation with her first feature-length film. Tuesday, named for Zora’s dying teenage daughter (Lola Petticrew), is a straightforward, uncluttered fusion of mother-child drama and magic realism. In what is essentially a three-hander, Death is a world-weary macaw who can shrink and grow effortlessly, an outstanding VFX creation voiced with engaging seriousness and heart by Arinzé Kene (I’m Your Woman).

With a nod to the indelible modern classic Wings of Desire, Pusić begins the film up above the planet, and zeros in on an eye. But it’s not the eye of a human or even a watchful angel — it belongs to a tiny macaw that will, in the next breath, become a giant macaw. Moving with purpose, if a bit of exhaustion as well, it has visits to pay to people suffering alone on the streets or in their homes, people whose time has come to die. This is Death, and the soundscape that opens the movie is the cacophony of human voices in his head — the sound of everyone’s pain, as the bird will describe it to Tuesday.

The trailer reduced me to a puddle. Save this for the fall so Julia can be in the running for the Oscar.

Oscar? Yeah... That's not gonna happen.

No one will see this, just like the other A24 film she was in.

Well I'm having the complete opposite reaction to the dude above. This looks incredible. If the trailer got me that bad then God knows what the films gonna do.

I like the trailer, it seems to be a fantasy-like tearjerker with some great acting.

Seeing this Monday night at a press screening. It’s my most anticipated film of the year.

Just finished watching this. Definitely original. Kinda weird. Had some funny moments, really sad. Still composing my thoughts. Overall I enjoyed the film.

I really liked the way the film opened. It went downhill from there but I still give it a 6/10.
[Show spoiler]A modern version of Death Takes a Holiday with some twists.
Worth seeing IMO.

An easy 4 out of 5 stars. First time filmmaker Daina O. Pusić from Croatia mixes fantasy elements with low-key, character-driven dramatics for something bizarre but intelligent, bleak and yet hopeful, off-putting yet inviting and SOMEhow makes it feel grounded and even realistic within the world she has created.

I'm not generally a fan of fantasy films and certainly never thought working those components into the kind of indie drama I usually go for could win me over, but this one did. The cast is wonderful and all bring their A-games but the real star here is writer/director Pusić who will hopefully craft something else as unique and welcome as Tuesday.

I really wanted to like this. The trailer was right up my street but the actual movie goes a LOT weirder than the trailer implies. I was expecting a more contemplative and intimate portrayal of grief but came away just thinking it was bizarre.

It is certainly original though.

I loved it. Maybe I’m biased as I just lost my mom, but it was one of the best films of the year for me.

I liked it.

I generally hate fantasy and I like magical realism in small doses but this had it throughout, which tested me, but the journey was a good one. The director did a good job and Lola Petticrew was a revelation. I laughed and I cried, that's a sign that a film made me feel something.

Anyone heard about a physical 4K of this? I have a personal attachment to it and have watched it 3 times now but would love even a barebones 4K.
