Default Blu-ray Hardware Database?

Hi folks,

I am thinking about putting together a hardware database for BD players, drives and PCs.

Do you think that would be useful?

If so, what fields would you like to be able to sort and filter on?

I was thinking:

Manufacturer, Retail Price, Profile, Analogs, Network, HDDVDDual, 24p, ACVHD, BDR/RE, TrueHD, DTSHD, DTSMA, HDMI 1.3

Anything else?

What is wrong with the one the Bad has already done. That can be linked off of here.

My goal is to present the data in a sortable and filterable fashion.

Granted the data is the same. But imagine being able to filter for 24p and HDMI1.3 for example - and not see players that don't match your needs.

That is the idea... see my stats site for movies in my sig if I have not explained it clearly...

NP I can see where you are headed then.
But if you are going to do codecs you need to list them as bitstream and decode to PCM.
I would also much like Bad has include the video decoder. Reason is that way you can also see what they unit is capable of doing. Since we know the Samsung 1400 has the 8634 we know if they included the hardware it could be upgraded to 1.1 and/or 2.0. As well as decode all the codecs. But I think we all know Samsung will not do that.

Don't know if you've seen this or not.

Yes, very useful information for sure.

I am going for something a bit different.

You can see the 'beta' running here: http://www.blu-rayhardware.info/

I have a lot more filters to create but you get the idea... obviously it borrows look and feel from the BD stats site... but one thing at a time

It looks very good. Maybe add the various PS3 models too. Maybe link the various model numbers to the PDFs of the help manuals found on the various manufacturer's websites. Just suggestions.

Thanks. Next phase will be a 'details' page with pictures and links to manufacturers sites and other details that don't fit in the main listing.

Indeed there are a lot more players to add as well.

Cheers!

Phloyd I was just looking at what you have done so far. And it looks nice. But the s500 and s2000 in their current state will not bitstream MA. They should but donot. As of right now the only 3 that do are the Samsung 1400, Panasonic 30, and the Pioneer 95.

Thanks for the input. One of the problems with this is working out what the players can and cannot do based on conflicting information.

The database needs more work for sure, especially the addition of Pioneer players, more future players and perhaps more historical players...

I am sure we have more than enough good minds here that can get all the info needed. And maybe even try and test what everything says.

Ok, the page structure is essentially done with the filters and such.

Now I just need to fill out the database as best I can and get feedback for corrections etc.

I am not sure how best to manage the corrections and/or comments. I guess I could create a forum or blog on the site allowing comments to be added for any given player.

Any thoughts on that..?
