Default Do you order Blu-ray's or 4K's from other countries if they have better specs.

I just ordered a UK version of Terminator 3 because it had Dolby True HD 5.1 English not just Dolby Digital 5.1. I also ordered the 4K version of Midway from the US because it had Dolby Atmos, the Canadian version only had DTS-MA 5.1.

I've only ever imported when a 4K or special edition isn't available in my country. Not for particular specs necessarily.

Examples:
The Elephant Man 4K (UK)
Pirates of the Caribbean 5-Film set 4K (Japan)
Singin in the Rain Zavvi 4K (UK)
Oldboy 4K (UK) [there wasn't a US 4K at the time]

-If it's a better transfer.
-If it isn't yet available in the US.
-If it is a Severin title in the US, because it's like $10-$20 cheaper to import, than buy the Severin version.

Thats exactly what I did with T3. Better picture and sound. What T3 desperately needs though is a 4K with a fresh scan of the OCN.

Yes. I bought the UK version of The Prestige because it is on a BD-100. My collection has a decent number of foreign titles.

I'm trying to import less and less frequently because it's expensive. But yeah, if there's something I really, really want and I can't see a better UK alternative on the horizon, then I'll buy it.

If it's a huge favorite of mine I'll buy it again via import for the better disc, but it has to be a movie I really care about a lot. The upcoming Invasion of the Body Snatchers from Arrow is a good example, as I already have the Kino but I'm getting the Arrow.

If it's a movie I like but don't love, I'll just try and #DealWithIt. My will isn't always strong though.

I think the only UHD I've imported for technical reasons was Scarface, due to the opening text being burnt-in instead of player generated. All my other imports have been due to pricing advantage (Apocalypse Now in particular) or because no local release.

I've ordered a ton of 3D Blu-rays from other countries that didn't get released in the U.S. Currently if you want Marvel 3D Blu-rays they only get released by Disney in Japan. Tons of films that only got 3D Blu-rays in the UK, Germany, France, Spain.

American Psycho is one of my favorite films and I ordered the Australian Blu-ray which is authored by Sony and has a more film like transfer than the mediocre Lionsgate one. I've since upgraded to the 4K.

I ordered the UK version of Midsommar Director's Cut. The U.S. only got the theatrical except for the pricy A24 Shop exclusive. At the time I wasn't 4K ready and I was annoyed that they split the formats up. I wasn't going to order a 4K only release and the UK BD was cheap from Amazon.

I also ordered the UK DVD release of Scum because it has both the 1977 TV version and the 1979 theatrical version.

One of the main reasons I bought a region free 4K blu-ray player a few years ago.

I'll usually only order other region Blu-rays if they aren't available in the states. I do have a region free player but I prefer not to do that unless I have to. With 4Ks being region free, I'm way more open. I prefer the US release but if a foreign release has a much better encode, better art or a studio I prefer, I'll go that way.

For instance, Arrow releases a lot of stuff in the UK that doesn't come out here or if it does, it comes from another distributor. I'm an Arrow simp so I'll go out of my way for their releases. Case in point, I'm probably going to double dip on Carrie when the standard release comes out even though the Shout version is perfectly fine.

Honestly no, I'll usually wait for an NA release of something. It's out of my price range to import.

No, only if it isn't released in the US, opinions about quality are highly subjective.

I haven't, but I'm not opposed to it. For example, I know I'll get Love Actually when if it's released better in the UK.

All depends on the price... and honestly, which country it's from. I don't really like the idea of having foreign language all over the artwork.

Living in Norway, I have to import many of the best special editions of the movies I love the most. I have been buying alot of Arrow releases from the UK, and some Scream editions from the US. But the standard editions of most movies I want in my collection, I can buy here at home. I have not ordered anything from Amazon.com since the carriers decided to get supergreedy after the pandemic. It just isn't worth it anymore.

I do, quite often. Main reasons are lack of Dolby Vision or uncompressed audio tracks on my native release. If the native release is on 25gb disc, I usually look for a better alternative elsewhere, as I've found these releases often show bad compression artifacts. Sometimes these releases have limited audio options as well.

This requires some effort though, since some language versions, German and French in particular, are sometimes problematic due to forced or burnt-in subtitles

Yes, I always look to buy the best version of a film. Not interested in buy a film for the extra tat, etc. I always go by specs, PQ and AQ

I have a few if they miss something obvious here like a blu-ray bonus disc for a film I don't own or if they are reported to have some lesser qualities in image (like No time tie die from SF).

Most of the time I can't afford it though so it is what it is.
