Default Warner has dropped HD-DVD already in Australia

Beowulf Comes To Blu-ray In Australia... (Hi Def News)

Don't you just love worldwide distribution rights? Whilst Paramount have just announced an HD-DVD exclusive release of Beowulf for February in the United States, Warner Brothers have announced the Blu-ray exclusive release of the film for April 9th locally.

Whilst Warner have committed to releasing titles on HD-DVD in the United States until the end of May, it seems they will not be releasing any further discs in Australia.
i expect this to be the case almost anywhere outside North America actually.

The price is cheaper for international buyers than the one quoted on the website.

This will probably be the better version than the North American one as Warner have encoded it for Blu-ray only.

From IMBD:

"Distributors:
Paramount Pictures (2007) (USA) (theatrical)
Warner Bros. Pictures (2007) (non-USA) (except Russia) (theatrical)"

So I think we are in luck.

Theatrical rights are not the same as home video rights. However, I've seen postings elsewhere that indicate that Warner owns the home video rights everywhere except the USA.

I'll be happy to import this from Australia.

Try "Is that being released on Blu-ray only, or can I still get it on DVD, too?"

While it may be true that Warner will stop HD DVD releases in Australia ahead of May, it could be something else. It is important to note that while Warner is still releasing HD DVD they are not promoting it as it will be released 3 weeks after the Blu and DVD release date. Australia could still get it they just aren't advertising it. The same thing is being reported in the US, that Warner titles are only being advertised on Blu-ray and DVD because all promotions include the street date, it is not worth it to add "and on HD DVD three weeks later".

IMO, Beowolf wasn't really all that great but since I watched it at my local IMAX in 3D, it was fantastic. Again, about the movie itself it was alright not one of my favorites
