Default Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (SVU) - Season 25 - 10 September 2024 - Universal

Bizarre choice to start releasing Blu-rays with Season 25... but if you want the rest on Blu-ray, best support it.

Quote:
The fight for justice never ends as Captain Olivia Benson and her squad return for the landmark 25th season of the groundbreaking series, "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit." The longest-running live-action primetime series in American television history. Created by Emmy Award-winning producer Dick Wolf, the groundbreaking series examines the lives of the Special Victims Unit of the New York City Police Department. Capt. Olivia Benson (Emmy Award winner Mariska Hargitay) leads the powerhouse unit, which includes Benson's second-in-command, Sgt. Odafin "Fin" Tutuola (Ice T), Detective Joe Velasco (Octavio Pisano) and Assistant District Attorney Dominick "Sonny" Carisi (Peter Scanavino).

3 discs.

This came so far out of left field that it came from outside the stadium.

If Universal doesn't want to do S1-S24 of SVU themselves (plus all the 50+ other seasons of L&O), farm it out to a boutique like Kino. Allegedly Monk was huge, so they'd probably pounce at the opportunity to do L&O.

I hope that this means that TV shows are selling well on Blu, and we start seeing more and more TV come to Blu!

If Universal does keep trickling out more MODs for SVU themselves, what I think would be right up Kino's alley is Criminal Intent. Where the mothership goes would probably be dependent on how successful either of those are (it'd definitely go to Kino if they start remastering it in 4K like Monk and Columbo—either way, expect the early seasons to be cropped).

Likewise, I'd say one-off stuff like Trial by Jury, LA and Exiled are a toss-up as to who distributes them, but they were getting licensed for DVD release in Australia about 6 years ago, so I think even they're plausible candidates for release too down the road (if maybe way, way down). As far as I know, the whole franchise is at least HD-ready if they see success in this now.

The dam has cracked on Law & Order, since the first five seasons are coming (supposedly in their OAR of 1.33:1, to boot) from Elephant Films in France.

I'm guessing Season 25 of SVU is coming because Universal and / or MovieZyng are just playing games each year putting out a couple seasons of "major" shows. Saying that, I am surprised it's taken this long for one of the Dick Wolf shows to get a release in the USA, particularly as all eleven available seasons of Chicago Fire are on Blu-ray in Europe.

I wonder if any more of the franchise is coming via box sets. I don't think it's particularly wise to issue single seasons, but I'm guessing plenty would buy a big box of say, the first 12 seasons of SVU.

I'd certainly grab some vintage SVU seasons and at the very least Exiled when it comed to the mothership.

At this point Organized Crime is really the only decent L&O. I just watch the other two out of habit and devotion. They're not very good. SVU, especially, has fallen VERY far.
