Default Extended Warranty on Samsung LN-T4665F?

I've got about 3 more weeks if I decide to buy Circuit City's extended protection plan. More than my concern about actual component failure, I like the coverage that the plan claims to provide (replacement if it can't be fixed, stuff not covered by the manufacturer). With the exception of Apple Care on my Macs, I never buy extended warranties, but on products that are both pricey and impossible to service myself, it seems reasonable - if the extended warranty delivers when I need it. I've read a few horror stories, and suggestions that there are other, better companies to deal with, etc. What's the consensus here? And, for those that do suggest an extended warranty, whose do you suggest? Thanks!

Mark

have you tried squaretrade.com, they are an ebay owned company and sell extended warranties on electronics.
I purchased mine from there for 199.99 after discount(coupon code:flyer20) I believe it was for 3 years

worth checking out, they provide coverage on any new electronics

I have the extended warrantee on my 5271 Samsung. It was a 5 year replacement from P.C.Richard. I think it was like $350 or something.

Better safe than sorry. It also covers a certain percentage of dead pixels!

Yes, but don't you have to mail your defective unit somewhere for that type of coverage? If yes, then that would be a huge extra added costs. That's why I always prefer buying electronics from BBY. I can take a defective unit to any store, anytime knowing that a large company like that is taking care of the problem, and if they can't then there is always the lemon clause. I'd definitely encourage the purchase of an extended warranty, but only through a large retail chain like BBY and CC or the manufacturer itself.

Thanks for all the replies. OK, so I think I'll definitely get the extended warranty, but I also have the same concern as gvortex7. I'd definitely want in-home service (which CC says is part of their plan). If it has to leave the house, I don't want to have to ship it. I'll check out the suggestions and see what they cover, and how they do it (in-home or whatever).

I bought a 4671F from Circuity City and have the same situation as you. My debate is whether it's worth the $400 bucks or not.

I have bought a TV with one of their plans before and the service was exceptional. Any TV 25" or over they will service in home, and if they can't, will take care of bringing it in for you. Whey they found out they couldn't repair the TV, they allowed me to pick out a brand new TV within like $200 of the original. Then, they delivered it free of charge.

It was pretty exceptional service, IMO, and covers significantly more than the 1 year manufacturer warranty (although the Samsung warranty also provides in-home service for 46" and larger.) But, the $400 is pretty damn steep for something I have a 50/50 or less chance of using. I typically get protection plans for all my products, but they are never this expensive. I realize it would pay for itself 3 times over if something were to go wrong, but I just have a hard time rationalizing laying down another $400 on an already expensive TV.

I dont know about my TV but my PS3 is covered by a 3 year warranty just incase something happens. Honestly for me Its worth it because you never know what is going to happen, in addition you are spending a good amount on something nice, whats another 100 bucks to ensure if anything happens you got things covered?

Thanks! I'm going to pull the trigger on the CC protection plan, and call and buy it tomorrow. Like you, I'm not fond of taking that much extra $ onto the cost of the TV, but I can easily see one repair costing around or at least that. I believe the 3 year plan was either $269 or $299, so I may go with that one.

Circuit City charged me $479 for a three year warrenty on my Samsung (LNT5271F).

I bought the same warrenty last year when I bought my first LCD (LNS4695) But, last year it was $549!

I would just cry if 1 1/2 years pass and all the sudden, something bad happens.

Its a gamble, but even if I dont have a problem with the tv, peice of mind with my investment... Priceless.

same way at CC, they mail it off and you wait for it to be returned
It says in home service on large items, and the reviews are good

Well, I went for it. $423.99 for 60 months. Again, it stings a bit tacking another $400 onto the price of the TV, but I feel better already. Now, let's hope I never need it.
