Release date: March 31

Quote:
On 3/31, Scrpion Releasing presents Frank Perry's DAVID AND LISA! It will feature a brand new HD master from the original negatives, and a brand new interview with star Keir Dullea. The Blu Ray will be a limited release, through retail outfits, MSRP 29.95, and the DVD will be 19.95.
David and Lisa Blu-ray PRE-ORDER

Quote:
This touching '60s classic about two emotionally disturbed teenagers drawn to each other in a mental institution created a sensation among audiences and critics when it was first released. Portrayed unforgettably by Janet Margolin (Annie Hall) and Keir Dullea (2001: A Space Odyssey), the painfully shy Lisa can communicate only through rhyme, and David cannot bear being touched. Strongly attracted to each other, they develop a deep bond that changes both of their lives. Directed by Frank Perry (Diary Of A Mad Housewife, TV's A Christmas Memory) with a strong supporting performance by Howard Da Silva as the compassionate psychiatrist, this powerful film will leave its mark on you forever.

[Show spoiler]
Quote:
Frank Perry is one of my favorite directors, and Janet Margolin is one of my favorite actresses who never got the recognition she deserved, so I am glad to present their work DAVID AND LISA from a brand new HD master and will be releasing this as a limited edition BluRay, while the DVD will go out through retail channels later this year.

What will the "limited channels" be? The Code Red store?

I read it as an LE BD through Code Red's store, and a normal retail release for the DVD

I've never seen DAVID AND LISA, but I'm interested in it. I remember when it was playing art houses.

Scorpion is releasing this through Amazon! Finally, an easy pre-order for a limited release. I ordered this as soon as it went up, prime shipping and everything. I'm really looking forward to this one. The Amazon link is up on the listing page at https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/David...lu-ray/102206/

I've preordered this with Amazon. It's a blind buy for me, although I was 9 or 10 years old when it was playing at the local Seattle arthouse theater. My parents must have thought it was too "mature" for me back then.

If you look at this poster's previous threads, all he does is attack my label, accusing me of DNR'ing DEATHSHIP, when no DNR was applied, (ask Deluxe lab) now accusing me of doing low bit rates on all my titles, when that is false, name me one other BluRay title that has a low bit rates, besides this disc that the authoring house bungled? Come on, name me one. Whats the "low" bit rate on FIREPOWER, CANDLE FOR THE DEVIL, TOMBOY, etc,. Look at some of the Kino ones I produced, they are dual layered, unlike ones Kino released that could have used it.

Its obvious this poster has a axe to grind, and all one has to do is look at this posters past posts regarding my titles. the proof is in the pudding. This fellow , like a Twilight time hater, has nothing better to do than try to put my reputation down. Its very obvious. Mods have been informed.

Scorpion,

While Deluxe may not have done any work on Death Ship, the transfer is in fact filtered -- and it shows. You should be able to tell. Take a look at your lovely release of Flavia the Heretic and compare the two.

I just picked up your release of Firepower, and it is again quite nice. Also, I don't have The Dirt Bike Kid, but just by looking at the review here I can tell that it is a lovely release as well.

I have not seen David and Lisa, but I plan to get it. I hope it is as good as Flavia....

But Deluxe did not apply any DVNR/DNR to the transfer, unless it was shot with a filter on the lens, I was sayign this individual once accused me of using excessive DNR on DEATHSHIP, which is different than filter being on the lens.

I understand

However, more than likely the filtering was built-in. Quite a few older masters have it.

Now, if this member has said that you personally are asking that your titles are DNR-ed/filtered and are doing it, then this is an entirely different story. People can very easily see that this isn't the case. The sexy comedies, Flavia..., the Sophia Loren film, these look really nice. The ones you did with Kino are also quite nice. I have these discs.

I can't comment on your horror titles because I have not seen them. (I mean the ones that you personally released, not through Kino, because I don't have them).

Hi,

thanks, I always make sure the ones I produce for Kino, when needed, are always Dual Layered, as the up coming SUGAR HILL and SAVAGE WEEKEND will be, as well as GO TELL THE SPARTANS, and on SPASMO, I am planning on including both the Non DNRed master and the DNRed one so the viewers can decided which one they prefer, and both has been additionally color corrected as well.

I appreciate the reponse, and also the admission that DAVID AND LISA was bungled by the authoring house. This film was shot in 35 mm, and it should indeed look glorious on Blu-ray. What I saw does indeed look filtered, soft, and video-like, probably due to either filtering, bitrate starvation, or both.

I just would ask in all earnest appreciation of this wonderful film, if you will see fit to recall the title, and reauthor it appropriately?

I know things do not always work perfectly in a small business. Again, I thank you for the comments. And I do so much love these catalog films, that perhaps expectations can be too high. Across the industry, many, other companies seem to be releasing things without much love or attention to proper encoding. Judging by your openess, it seems you really do care about putting out quality product.

I've purchased several of your other titles, including DEATH SHIP, DAY OF THE ANIMALS, SEIZURE, DON'T ANSWER THE PHONE, MY TUTOR.

The ones which I noticed had a quite low bitrate are: DAY OF THE ANIMALS (you should have used a BD50 instead of a BD25), DOGS, MY TUTOR, and most notably now, DAVID AND LISA.

And while we're on the subject of Frank Perry's wonderful film, is there any chance that Scorpion could acquire either LADYBUG, LADYBUG or THE DIARY OF A MAD HOUSEWIFE somewhere down the line if DAVID AND LISA sells well?

I believe THE SWIMMER has just been released on Blu, but I haven't seen it yet.
