Default Samsung bp1400

Hi guys,

Sorry if this has been answered already, I've trawlled through many of the posts & I think I may have gotten the answer I am looking for but i'd like to clarify this;

My player is connected to my dolby/dts thx amp by an optical cable, but i cant get any sound when i set the unit up to output bitstream.

Do i need to wire it up with the phono leads left/right/back/sub, etc instead, as is suggested in some of these posts?

Any help would be very gratefully received!!

In case it helps - Player - Sammy 1400 connected to B&K amp via optical cable & to tv by HDMI lead. I have upgraded to the latest firmware.

I'm asuming by amp you mean that there is no receiver in this set-up. In which case you should let the player decode the audio and send it to the amp by lpcm. I am not too familiar with amps, so i may be wrong, but i don't believe it will decode the audio.

Optical won't bitstream Dolby Digital Pllus, Dolby TrueHD or DTS HD. So if you're playing a Blu-ray with any of those codecs, it can't bitstream them over optical; you need to do it over HDMI or just use the analog 5.1 outs.

Side note, optical can also only handle PCM 2.0, not PCM 5.1 or higher.

EDIT: By the way, this is all a limitation of TOSLINK, not an issue with the player.

Optical can, however, bitstream 5.1 if you don't have a receiver that has HDMI capability, or as you stated, run analogue cables if that's an option. If your receiver does have HDMI output, then you do need to run a HDMI cable to the BDP for PCM options, if not, run optical and you'll still have very nice sound.
