Default Samsung bp1400 will bestbuy take it back?

Hi, my best friend bought me a Samsung bp1400 blu-ray player, he doesn't know that much about HD. Now don't get me wrong I do want a new blu-ray player but not the samsung I've heard a lot of problems with samsung. I was thinking about taking it back to best buy and getting a better model. I don't want to ask him for the receipt because I don't want to seem like I don't like the gift. Has anyone taken a gift back to bestbuy and if so is there anything you can tell me. I don't want to make the trip if it can't be done.

As long as it is unopened, BB will take it back before the 31st. I just took back a Christmas gift I didn't want to BB. They will give you the lowest sale price it's had in the last few months.

I have no problems with my 1400. None, zero, nada. I cannot express to you how much I think the complaints are overblown concernining this model. It works well with my Onkyo 605 as well. Although if you still don't want it, you could "regift" it and send it to me. lol

Well I don't think he would notice just as long as I have a blu-ray player in it place.

Hello everyone , I'm new to this forum and have been reading most of your threads. I use to own the samsung bp1400 had problems with the first one, had updated its firmware still same problem not being able to play LFDH. Went to Best Buy exchanged it for another one, still the same problem. Brought it back they gave me a hard time trying to get another brand of bd player however they finally let me exhanged it for the panasonic after being upset of having a player not being able to play all blue ray dvd. They wanted to exchange it for yet another samsung; told them I'm through with samsung wanted to try another brand and finally happy with the panasonic. Hope they won't give you hard time .

The 1400 is not the problem player for Samsung that is the 1200. But who knows once they get the 1500 out the 1400 might just go the same way as the 1200. We really donot know.

My 1400 is great, I have not had a single problem with it. It refused to load Sunshine last night, but I pulled the disk out and there were fingerprints all over it!! After I wiped them off, the 1400 loaded and played flawlessly. Thats the only problem I have had after 4 months of using the player!

I just answered my own question. I was thinking about and it came to me. So I called him up and asked him if I can have the receipt because I needed it to get the 5 free movies. he was like no problem he also told me that he got it with the 3 year warranty. So it’s a good thing I called. Now I don’t know if I should take it back or not. I mean it’s only 1.0 player and I hear so many bad things about samsung blu-ray players. But it does have a 3 year warranty so if it does break bestbuy will just give me a new samsung model witch will be 1.1 or 2.0 in a couple of years.

What you're hearing are the problems with the 1200.

No, the 1400!
  • Load times are bad , starting with the player off it took about 55 seconds to play a movie that didn’t have Java-based menus. Even worse was its performance on discs with Java-based menus, as it took 3 minutes and 8 seconds to actually get the movie playing on Pirates of the Caribbean disc.
  • The BD-P1400 also has one of the loudest disc drives on any high-def player.
  • Also Blu-ray discs with Java-based menu systems (like the Pirates of the Caribbean series), run into problems where we'd pause the movie, walk away for a few minutes, and it would stop the movie completely. When we tried to play it again, we had to reload the disc and start from the beginning--instead of picking up where we left off.

Can anyone tell me if the firmware update fixed any of these problems?

Well, if I had a product that had a FW update available, I would get it first. secondly, I'm not experiencing these long load times probably because I've got the latest FW update. I think all roads lead toward the FW update.

that is absolutely ridiculous. i do have the lastest firmware update on my player also.

first off, it is NOT that slow of a disc reader. Yes, the java based blu rays will take a little more time than non java's, but youre gonna get that with most every player. The only problem i had with playing pirates 3 was it had like 8 previews on the stupid disc that i had to skip through. I've loaded and watched all the pirates movies, live free or die hard, and the new resident evil apocalypse blu rays flawlessly many, many times. I also think people put too much emphasis on load times. i mean come on, if you have that bad of ADD to sit for one lousy minute to let the 2 hour movie you're about to sit through load, then put the movie in and go to the bathroom or get some food. my god.

it also is NOT that noisy. I'm not going to grab an spl meter and measure how many dB's this thing is putting off, but when I'm watching a movie, even over quiet dialogue passages, the last thing im concentrating on is how the blu ray drive sounds. If I were to start hearing a big ol noisy fan starting up like on the 60gb and 80gb ps3's, then I may be a bit concerned. The noise coming off this machine was the absolute last of my concerns. Especially since I'm sure you will be having multiple other components running such as an av receiver, tv or projector (which some can be disgustingly noisy), amps, etc. All of which are generating a fair amount of noise as well.

the pausing issue, I also have not had any problems with. I've watched pirates 3 a lot of times, and unless i physically turn the power off on the samsung, it always restarts right where i left off. I've let it sit around for atleast half an hour before. Maybe you will be breaking from the movie for longer and the samsung will end stopping the disc and i havent noticed that yet. But come on, maybe its just me, but if im getting up in the middle of a movie for longer than 30 minutes, i shouldnt be watching a movie.

I think the samsung is great. and with your 3 year service plan, it would be so easy to get the new samsung whenever it comes out by conning the retard best buy folk or wherever you got it. I cant even count how many times i've brought in a purchase made at best buy with a service plan and have just gotten in store credit for me to spend on whatever i wanted in the store. In which case you could get whatever you wanted at that point.

BUT .... if you still want to return it, wait for the panny bd50. its profile 2.0

and thus concludes a minor portion of my venting about people hating on the sammy 1400 ........ more to come later im sure
