Yes! Beautiful film, and the old Blu transfer was extremely mediocre. Jane Seymour deserves the best.

Early 2025 is shaping up to be just as much carnage as late 2024. Not sure how much more of this my wallet can take!

Great film, definite pick up

Any chance Arrow does this in the UK? Getting tired of jumping on these Kino 4k releases only for Arrow to a superior version outside the US. I may wait and see if anyone thinks it’s a possibility.

Edit: Never mind. Evidence suggests that’s only been happening with MGM titles.

Like Kino's recent announcement of MURDER BY DECREE, I sure hope they deliver substantial PQ upgrades....

SOMEWHERE IN TIME could look stunning...

The current disc looks like shit, so pretty much anything is an upgrade.

I remember vastly overpaying at a music shop to order the CD of this film's soundtrack...all because I loved it so much. This was well before iTunes or any ability to purchase digital copies. I still have the CD.

I wasn't going for any more 4K discs, but the color timing on the BD is just absolute trash.

If it doesn't have the "yellow" color grade throughout all the 1912 scenes, I'm in.

How do you know it isn't supposed to have a look similar to that?

From the DP

“We really didn’t use very many or very heavy filters on the show, because the difference in film stock did more or less what certain filters might have done. Though we did use filters to some extent on Jane Seymour, because she was supposed to look almost ethereal. We used some of our black nets. In order to work into the nets — so that the change in image characteristics would not be quite so sudden — in all the scenes leading up to her close-ups we would use a lighter black and then go to a heavier black for the actual close-up.”

Just watch the original trailer. It shows exactly how it would look in theaters of at the time.

Trailers are never a good reference for how a movie is supposed to look theatrically especially at that time. 99% of the time they were made even before editing was completed, let alone color timing. Never use a trailer as reference for how a movie is supposed to look. (Also see Sleepy Hollow)

Great news! I almost caved and bought the blu recently, but luckily I held out and watched it on digital.

My favourite Jane Seymour is the Jamaica Inn mini-series from 1983. That badly needs to be remastered too and given an HD release somewhere (there’s only an OOP UK dvd). Such a great adaption of the book and performance by Jane Seymour that should be more widely seen and available.

The DP confirmed no heavy filters were used, if that nagging yellow isn’t a heavy filter, it is the strangest film stock known to man.
The above photos I posted are direct screen captures from the existing BD. Hideous.

If you like the look (color) of the BD more power to you.
I hated it, and hope for something much better visually.
