Paramount Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Complete DVD Series (2003-2009)

Viacom / Paramount will be releasing the complete collection of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles series that ran from 2003 to 2009. It will include 155 episodes across 18 discs.

Quote:
Synopsis
When four pet turtles were bathed in alien ooze, they began to mutate and became the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Raised in New York City sewers by their foster father and wise sensei, Master Splinter, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Donatello, and Raphael wage war against crime. Led by Master Splinter, the four turtles learn the ancient martial art of Ninjitsu, mastering skills of stealth, weapons, and fighting. They stop evildoers in all forms, whether barbaric gangs, lowlife crooks, deranged cyborgs, or even the crime syndicate The Foot, led by their archrival, The Shredder. This release of the 2003 reimagined series includes all 155 episodes. Also included is the TV movie and series finale, Turtles Forever where worlds collide as the turtles from the 2003 dimension meet the 1987 turtles and other classic characters like Splinter, Casey, April, and a slew of archenemies like Krang, the Foot Soldiers, and Bebop & Rocksteady!

Holy CRAP, freaking FINALLY!! Judging by the release date, I'm guessing we have Mutant Mayhem's upcoming theatrical release (as well as the added benefit of it being the show's 20th Anniversary this year) to thank for this LONG-awaited miracle. I can't freaking WAIT to finally have this show on my shelf in more than small pieces!

It's about ****ing time. Nick and Viacom have been treating this series as the redheaded bastard stepchild of the franchise

Judging by how this is from MovieZyng this might be an MOD Online Only DVD-R release...

I doubt that it's a MOD. Only time will tell.

It's about time. I used to have the season sets but sold them, foolishly, about 15 years ago.

The listing shows a July 25 release date.

Finally!!! Maybe this will also give Warner Bros the incentive to give us the original movies in 4K.

Huh? It has zero to do with Warner or the original movies.
This is likely to do with it being the 20th anniversary of this series airing.

I've said it before and I'll say it again; next year is the most likely time to see a 4K release of the original movie, as it will be the 40th anniversary of the TMNT. If we don't see it next year, I don't expect to see it at all.

After how lackluster the 2012 Complete series set ended up being, I'm fairly cautious about this one. I just wish these shows were handled by Shout Factory instead of Paramount/Viacom.

Do there exist MOD DVD-R sets as large as 18 discs? I've never seen em go that big.

I'm interested in this. Especially for the "Back to the Sewer" episodes that never got a DVD release in the USA (and I never did import the Australian releases back when they were reasonably priced).

I also really hope Turtles Forever ends up being the extended/uncut version that was released online (and released on DVD in the UK). Though since the USA DVD was released after Nickelodeon bought TMNT, and was distributed by Paramount, I'm concerned that they will just basically reprint the old disc... which was not only the TV cut, but was also in non-anamorphic Widescreen, so it isn't even properly formatted for modern TVs.

I have pretty much all of the previous DVD releases/volumes from before the Nick/Paramount sale (including when they were releasing individual discs and then later did those Season 1, Part 1, etc. sets). I even have a section in my DVD collection here on the site just for this show (as well as sections for the 80s show and 2012 show). But some of the later volumes do have episodes out of order if I'm not mistaken, so having this complete set, if everything is in order, with the episodes that never got released and HOPEFULLY with the extended version of Turtles Forever would be very nice.

I wish I'd known about this before buying the recently released full series set on Vudu. That version does not include TMNT Forever, though, and the version of Forever that's currently sold on digital services is the sucky edited version.

Unfortunately this is really looking like a DVD-R release, since the release date is just over a month away, and no listings anywhere else. I really hope I'm wrong though, and the series isn't doomed to another worthless DVD-R release.

Bobby's World: The Complete Series was an 18 disc DVD-R release.

Looks like the listings for Bobby's World: The Complete Series are just a collection of the season sets in their regular sized cases? The artwork for TMNT '03 seems like it's a bigger set.
Then again, I can't imagine why else it's on MovieZyng...

Out of curiosity, I know DVD-R is a downgrade from pressed discs, but is there any reason you'd call it worthless? I'd easily take a MOD release over having no release at all.
I'm sure it depends on release, but I've heard some MOD releases are produced with pressed discs for their first runs. Maybe that's the case with this one?

All seasons of Bobby's World were released together, with the option of buying the complete series, when released via Amazon. So basically the same, just the option of buying season separately.

Compatibility - Many older DVD players don't handle DVD-R well, and even more recent DVD players can fail to handle the copy protection (CSS Managed Recording) used by these DVD-R. There are warnings (at Warner Archive) that these DVD-R might not work on computer systems too.

Durability - DVD-R will not last anywhere near as long as a pressed DVD, their lifetime is much more easily effected by handling and the environment (i.e. temperature changes).

Reliability - DVD-R can gradually fail over time, so they might appear to still be working, but certain scenes will start failing or glitches will start occurring over time.

I find importing DVD-R just too risky overall, as I watch via a computer system, and any returns costs can be very high as an international buyer.

I have only heard of that happening for select releases from Warner Archive, any other place (i.e. Amazon on-demand) seems to only offer a random chance of getting pressed discs.

Ahh, that's disappointing but completely understandable, especially considering international returns. I've personally not really had issues with MOD releases, and generally think it's a nice option to have for shows that wouldn't be released otherwise, but considering the steeper prices and lower quality I can see why it wouldn't be worth the risk to some.

Yeah that seems about right actually. I've got a few on-demand Amazon releases that are pressed, but it definitely seems like a shot-in-the-dark kind of thing.

No, they’re right. Releasing something that can ride the coattails of a competing studio’s high-profile theatrical film has been done countless times in the past and it’s undoubtedly more lucrative than waiting for anniversary year, which unremarkably happens every 5 years without fail and usually never rises above the level of a few entertainment sites writing lazy retrospective articles.

Plus there have been plenty of anniversary releases that are released ahead of the actual anniversary years, and even a few that have missed their anniversary and still carried the branding. So yeah, it’s surprising that Warner doesn’t have something ready to go to cash in. I wonder if Golden Harvest actually has the elements.

Paramount released the 2012 series on DVD last December - that didn't encourage Warner to release the 1990 movie on 4K. And this won't either.
