everytime i read a response from Toshiba, I just imagine some 1950's black and white movie with some dude shot on the street in the rain retorting "oh my god. no...no this cannot be....the money...the films...warner brothers...this can't be happening..."

yeah my brain is wired in awesome ways like that

What ignorant, dumb babies.

Talk about heads in the sand. There are just 4 lame groups who are maintaining too early to call the winner. Toshiba. Universal. Paramount. And all the HDDVD zealots on the internet (who sadly don't make a majority of anything anywhere looking at worldwide sales).

Well. Toshiba is now saying, that it's sure anymore, that they will win this war ... I guess that is a huge step for them.

Still. I think they just prolong this war. IT'S OVER TOSHIBA!!!

I think more of Baghdad Bob insisting they were winning the war in Iraq with American tanks rolling toward him in the background.

Microsoft is behind this whole thing. They want Blu-Ray and HD-DVD to fail. I believe that Michael Bay was the one who said this, so they can come to the rescue with digital downloads. The only reason the format war is still going on is because of Microsoft, AKA the Borg.

I do agree that M$ was behind HD-DUD but they pulled out about 2 months ago. Now it's Toshiba on their own and while I see their statements being the company/HD-DUD line, they need to clear out inventory to a certain level then I believe they will throw in the towel. Just like retailers were waiting for the 30 return date, they know when the inventory reaches a certain level then that's it.

Microsoft believes in "coopetition". Basically, drain a company for your own advancement then leave them out to die.

The reality check will be next week when the shareholders receive the P&L Quarterly Report and the sales forcast for the next 9 months. I've got the feeling several heads will roll at the Board of Director's meeting following the quarterly report. No more denial after the report is public, then the value of share deminishes, and dividends shrink. Not a very good position to be in, if your an executive of Toshiba. I predict this will not be allowed to go even another quarter, especially at 85%/15% . [Jim]

lmao. in toshibas eyes they would spin having like 3% of sales compared to 97% for blu ray by saying "we are still hanging in there".

Very true. Right now, their job is to tout HD DVD's "successes," whatever BS that may be. What is Toshiba? What is any company? A collection of people. The ones who actually care about the success of HD DVD itself are the ones with the money invested in the company.

Toshiba will be fine for the next year with their DVD royalties. After that, they will become a BDA subordinate.

Yes indeed! and they will be tooting their horn with a Super Bowl 30 second commercial at the tune of $ 2.7 million dollars for 30 seconds. What a waste of money, and everyone I've talked with in our industry (A/V and Entertainment) feel that this commercial will have little or no effect on the present and future trend for High Definition DVD entertainment, clearly now at 85% Blu-ray vs. 15%. HD DVD. As with all of the Home Audio and Video Magazines and online entities are calling for Toshiba to stand down now and prolong this no further . . . . it's over! Blu-ray has won . . . Period! .

I add my voice to that call as well. [Jim]
